This 12-month position will provide service and developmental support to a community of between 440-750 resident students. Pace University is looking for a highly motivated student affairs professional to fill our Residence Director position(s). This is a very engaging and exciting position that will offer a great deal of experience to a professional who is ready to join our team. The Department of Residential Life is committed to providing students with a supportive and inclusive living environment that enriches their educational experience. The Residence Director will be primarily responsibility for the implementation of residential curriculum, leadership of Resident Assistants, and operational management to their assigned residential community.

Community Management

  • Provide highly responsive service to students, serving in most cases as the first or second point of contact for student concerns
  • Implement the residential curriculum and co-curricular goals of division
  • Select, train, supervise, and evaluate a staff of Resident Assistants

Residence Hall Management

  • Serve as a liaison and resource to students in residential community
  • Provide all appropriate and necessary aspects of support to students and staff
  • Maintain building roster placement
  • Coordinate opening and closing with housing and operations staff including oversite of room condition reports and damage billing

Community Standards and Crisis Response

  • Maintain awareness of the students' behavior within community of responsibility
  • Review incident reports and adjudicate policy violations
  • Participate in developmental conversations, interventions, mediations, and advising with resident students
  • Perform on-call responsibilities and crisis management
  • Participate in first alert communications process
  • Take a proactive approach in addressing students who appear to be "at risk" and respond proactively to ensure support for students experiencing crisis

Communication

  • Participate in regular weekly staff meetings with each of the following staffs: management staff, professional staff, RA staff, as well as other groups as appropriate (RHA executive board, project management groups, etc.)
  • Maintain strong appropriate levels of communication with student staff (RAs), supervisors (area director); this will include excellent written communication, as well as regular one-on-one supervisory meetings and appropriate ad hoc verbal communication
  • Complete reports and forms (as necessary) in a timely and coherent fashion; reports include (but are not limited to), student conduct paperwork, weekly reports, semester reports, etc.

Supervision

  • Supervises 12-20 student (primarily undergraduate) Resident Assistant staff members
  • Depending on placement, may supervise one Graduate Assistant Residence Director

Note

  • This is a live-on position with a significant degree of crisis management/duty rotation responsibilities. There are several points during each year at which Residence Directors may be required to work evenings and weekends (e.g. "all hands" events such as move-in weekend, closing processes, RA selection, etc.). This staff member will also be required to be available by phone to respond to crisis situations within their building.

  • Master's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, or other related field is preferred. Bachelor's degree and two academic years post-baccalaureate experience as a live-in staff member are required.
  • Must have demonstrated experience with student and community development, supervision, and crisis management
  • Applicants should possess a commitment and ability to create communities that are inclusive of diverse populations
  • Start and end dates vary based on academic year; typical start date is July 1; typical end date is June 1
  • Must be able to perform emergency and evacuation, which require the use of stairs
  • Successful candidate will demonstrate excellent decision making and judgement and will be a positive member of a larger residential life staff team
  • Must be highly committed to student service and development
  • This is a live-in position which requires evening commitments
