The Coordinator of the Student Union Activities Board is responsible for the advisement of the Student Union Activities Board (SUAB). SUAB is a student organization since 1951 and is housed within Campus Life. The board provides a wide range of programming and events for the OSU community. The purpose of SUAB is to enhance student lives, foster student engagement, develop student competencies, promote a sense of belonging, and assist campus partners with achieving the educational and service mission of the university. The Coordinator advises the executive board members in the program development and execution and supervises two graduate teaching assistants with a focus on student development. Responsibilities include accountability for fiscal operations, management of two scholarships, oversight large-scale events within Campus Life, and contribution to key performance indicators related to student retention and persistence.
Advising
Advise the Student Union Activities Board (SUAB) in all phases of their operation.
Develop and implement programs specifically targeted at evenings and weekends in efforts to increase traffic in the SU during those times, as well as provide alternative activities.
Collect information on programs available, determines priorities, and advise students in making choices.
Assist with developing and implementing a comprehensive programming plan for the SUAB, including: reading, researching, and soliciting, ideas for potential programs from students, faculty, and staff.
Assist in the coordination of marketing pieces as they relate to SUAB programs by facilitating positive relationships with Student Union Marketing.
Coordinate efforts with campus organizations and University departments to encourage cooperative and collaborative programming in sponsorship, advertising, promotion, contracting facilities, evaluation, etc.
Coordinate room and catering needs with the Student Union departments.
Develop and disseminate procedures for the operation of programs within the areas of responsibilities.
Execute and attend SUAB meetings and programs.
Conduct risk assessment during all aspects of program planning for the safety and well-being of our students.
Student Development & Staff Supervision
Participate in the selection, development, and evaluation of graduate assistants.
Establish and maintain regularly scheduled meetings to facilitate effective and responsive communication and advisement with students and staff.
Assist students in recruiting and training Executive Board MembersFacilitate officer and membership selection process.
Establish and maintain evidence-based student development throughout the program
Provide or obtain appropriate and necessary training for staff members/Executive members, enabling them to carry out their job duties.
Provide appropriate feedback to staff members/Executive members as situations arise (both positive and constructive criticism); evaluate staff on a timely basis.
Create and maintain a teamwork approach and service attitude with staff and student committees.
Administrative
Oversee the budget and facilitate appropriate purchases within university policies and procedures.
Develop programs that are fiscally sound.
When needed, prepare contracts for performers/artists and work closely with OSU Legal Office in the interpretation of legal contracts and riders.
Assists in developing, planning, and coordinating special events including but not limited to Summer on the Plaza, Fanfare of Lights, and Late Night Cafe.
Facilitate the Abe Hesser Student Union Director’s Endowed Scholarship process
Oversee the Winston Shindell scholarship for SUAB graduate teaching assistants and the expectations outlined for the graduate assistants.
Data & Assessment
Track student participation and attendance in SUAB and programs.
Define and assess strategic metrics and key performance indicators related to student retention and persistence.
Perform ongoing research and analysis of student needs (surveys, focus groups, etc.) in efforts to stay current with the student’s needs and wants.
Provide an annual report of programs, including program intent, target audience, attendance, success factors, changes to programs, etc.
Contribute to the current focuses of Campus Life and Student Affairs through committee and program participation.
Invest in your own personal and professional development through avenues of continued learning.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Programming/Event Planning or related field.
Two years experience in Student Personnel/event planning/programming, professional level experience and supervision. Two years of graduate level experience can be accepted.
