The West Campus Area Coordinator (AC) is a full-time, professional staff member. This is a live off campus position.  

 

The AC is responsible for a comprehensive student development program within a complex of six residence halls and the Darwin Apartment Community, housing approximately 550 residents. The AC is responsible for supervision of a Residence Director, Office Manager and Receptionists as well as support and development of three, living-learning communities: Honors House, Eco-House, and Aggie Involvement. There are also 12 RAs and a Graduate Residence Director in this community.

The AC is responsible for overall development of supportive living learning environments, promoting inclusion and diversity and fostering community within each residence hall. The AC addresses student conduct and policy enforcement in collaboration with the Office of Student Conduct, and supports students of concern through close collaboration with the CARE and BIT Teams.  Other responsibilities include management of the multi-purpose room and area office, and working closely with the staff of the Honors Program, also housed within the administrative area. The West Campus Area Coordinator reports to the Director of Residence Life.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and develop professional staff and paraprofessional student staff: Residence Director, Graduate Residence Director, 12 Resident Assistants (RAs), an office manager, and several receptionists.
  • Oversee general management of residence halls and quality of community life.
  • Assess resident needs; design and facilitate opportunities for positive personal growth and academic achievement.
  • Inform residents of and implement applicable University and Housing and Residence Life policies; utilize creative and appropriate disciplinary sanctions, administrative procedures, and other campus resources in addressing student conduct issues.
  • Counsel and refer residents as appropriate with personal, academic, or housing-related concerns.
  • Collaborate with other campus support offices in addressing students' mental health struggle and students of concern.
  • Provide leadership in diversified programming efforts; establish a Hall Council and support RHA and student leadership development.
  • Work with summer students and/or summer conference groups during summer semester, as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate records and files in area office; provide information and reports as requested.
  • Manage activity budget and expenditures.
  • Monitor general maintenance of the buildings in conjunction with facilities and custodial teams; report building maintenance and security concerns.
  • Work closely in coordination of Residence Life projects and functions with other members of the professional staff team.
  • Share on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis with other Residence Life professional staff members.
  • Collaborate with Student Services, other University departments, facilities, and staff on special projects or committee work as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required. A minimum of two years recent staff experience at the Residence Director level in a comprehensive Residence Life & Housing operation is required. Previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Strong professional commitment to fields of residence life and higher education.
  • Demonstrated competence in all facets of residence hall management and organization, staff supervision and training, student conduct and conflict resolution, programming and community development, and administrative leadership.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills are essential.
  • Understanding and appreciation for relevant developmental issues and concerns characteristic of college students.
  • Sensitivity and commitment to inclusion, human diversity and social justice programming issues.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service, as well as residence hall marketing and retention strategies.
  • Must value and demonstrate a high degree of student contact.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling or related field is strongly preferred.
