The Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University (SUNY) seeks a dynamic leader to serve as Assistant Dean for Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
The Assistant Dean is the principal architect of the strategy that ensures the college meets its DEI Vision: to establish an equity-minded STEM community that challenges and eliminates exclusionary systems and practices and promotes innovation and academic success for all students, faculty and staff.
The Assistant Dean serves as a strong advocate for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within the college and must be a trusted and responsive subject matter expert. They are a critical source of leadership and support for faculty, staff, college leadership, and undergraduate and graduate students. The Assistant Dean oversees the Watson Office for Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, which provides support to students, faculty, and staff from across the college.

Duties and Responsibilities
Execute the strategic vision for DEI in Watson College; establish timelines, develop and implement strategies and tactics, and monitor and report on progress
Implement programs that attract, support, and retain low-income, first-generation-to-college, and underrepresented K-12, undergraduate, and graduate students
Oversee the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) grant and work with the LSAMP Coordinator on all related matters
Maintain and expand partnerships with HBCU's and MSI's
Oversee the success of the Watson Scholars Program, in support of the college's access and social mobility goals
Assist the college in creating more diverse faculty and staff applicant pools
Support department-level and unit-level DEI plans
Expand and regularize DEI training and educational offerings for faculty, staff, and students
Pursue sponsored funds to support DEI programs and initiatives and work collaboratively with faculty to support their pursuit of these types of funds
Assist faculty with "Broader Impact" and other similar grant-based outreach programs
Engage with industry leaders, friends, alumni, and donors who share the college's commitment to DEI
Manage the Watson Office for Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (WEDEI)
Serve on the Watson College's Committee on Diversity and Inclusive Excellence
Liaise with the community of DEI officials across the campus
Maintain professional networks, conduct benchmark studies, and promote best practices
Serve as campus representative to the GEM Consortium
Requirements:

Master's degree required by the time of appointment; Doctorate preferred
Minimum 3 years of related and effective professional experience
Demonstrated understanding of, and sensitivity to, diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
Demonstrated commitment to the mission of diversity, inclusion, and equity
Understanding of the national conversation around DEI in higher education and a keen sense of best practices and emerging issues
Proactive, detail-oriented, with ability to juggle a complex set of responsibilities
Experience in program assessment and metrics-based management
Ability to quickly build relationships of trust and shared purpose with faculty, students, staff, administrators, alumni, donors, and industry leaders
Demonstrated ability to supervise others and create a positive team-based environment
