Salary will be commensurate with training and experience. The University of Tennessee (UT) Extension, the outreach unit of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA), is a strong partner addressing health challenges across the state. UT Extension Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) focuses on a multi-disciplinary approach addressing social determinants of health in rural and urban communities. FCS seeks a Community Health faculty member to contribute to the missions of the FCS department, UT Extension, and UTIA.  This position is responsible to the Extension Assistant Dean and Department Head of Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS).   

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plan, develop, and implement research-based community health programs and resources that serve Tennesseans and address topics such as (but not limited to): health across the lifespan, physical activity, substance misuse, health policy, rural health care, environmental health, disaster preparedness, and volunteerism. • Provide interpretation and application of current research, emerging issues, and legislation related to the above topics, and set program direction.  • Lead multi-disciplinary collaborations.  • Seek, secure, and manage internal and external resources (i.e., grants) to support and enhance programs.  • Support established state, regional, and national networks and coalitions.  • Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of state-wide programs in community health; report to the appropriate state and national agencies and to program stakeholders.  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to Tennessee Extension agents via phone, email, website resources, online training, and in-service training. Technical guidance includes interpreting current research findings, needs assessments, educational strategies, evaluation methods, data collection and interpretation, research-based resources, coalition building, staff development, and mentoring.  • Enhance and share expertise through presentations, publications (peer-reviewed and otherwise), and maintain active membership in relevant professional organizations.  • Provide service and leadership within the department, university, and profession.  • Provide accessible educational materials and programs for clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex, veteran status, or disability.  

QUALIFICATIONS

Earned doctorate in Community Health, Public Health, Health Communication, Kinesiology, Nursing, Exercise Physiology, Gerontology, Family and Consumer Sciences, Human Sciences or closely related field(s) • Strong interpersonal skills  • Strong organizational skills  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups  • Demonstrated success in grant and contract efforts  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate curricula appropriate for youth and adult audiences  • Excellent written and oral communication skills  • Accomplished educator with high quality presentation skills  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a supportive team member in leadership and membership roles  • Evidence of scholarship through scientific presentations and publications  • Training and experience in needs assessment and evaluation  

PREFERENCES

• Understanding of rural healthcare systems • Experience with Cooperative Extension (or similar outreach education organization) • Nationally recognized in discipline
