Primary Purpose of Organization Unit: The Office of Housing and Residence Life offers residential students the opportunity to be part of a community that is clean, safe and respectful; a community that is interactive and conducive to academic, educational, and social development.
Primary Purpose of Position: The Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life reports to the Director. The Associate Director will assist with managing staffing and operations in multiple campus residence hall and apartment buildings with nearly 2000 residents, annual budget of approximately $11,000,000, and a workforce of approximately 75 full -time, part-time, and student employees. This position assists with leadership, administration, and general oversight for a comprehensive housing and residence life program.
The Associate Director is responsible for recruitment, hiring, training and ongoing development, and supervision of the live on professional staff (Area Coordinators) as well as the RA team members. The Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life interacts daily across divisional lines to enhance residents’ academic and personal growth and development. The successful candidate is expected to work collaboratively with all segments of the university community through education, consultation, advisement, and referral. This position ensures that the program supports the vision and mission of the institution and the unit whose mission is building a unique Braves Residential Experience centered on student engagement and community building in support of student retention, matriculation, and graduation.

25%: Directly supervise, manage, and evaluate four live-in Area Coordinators. Assist with recruitment, selection, and training of professional staff. Develop and provide ongoing opportunities for professional growth.
Develops professional development plans for direct reports
To promote a sense of team and to provide overall leadership to the staff of the department.
Ensure a stellar RA recruitment, selection, training, and ongoing development process resulting in a dedicated group of student leaders committed to UNCP and to student engagement, success, and retention.
In conjunction with Residence Life staff maintain active and engaged hall councils, Residence Hall Association, and NRHH groups engaged at the state, regional and national level.
Assist in the development of living and learning communities that compliment and enhance the strategic goals, mission and vision of UNCP and Housing and Residence Life
Actively assess departmental needs and priorities and respond accordingly through quality services, programs and procedures.
25%: Conducts research of other university programs to ensure the formulation of appropriate residence policies; the establishment of active implementation of residence hall governance; and the overall responsibility for rules and regulations governing all campus-housing units. In conjunction with the Director, establishes short and long-term goals and objectives for the Residential Life area including any related budget implications
Foster and facilitate long-range planning as it relates to the department's overall program and operation including annual updates of a five year facilities R&R plan in collaboration with finance and facilities.
Assist with overall leadership and direction for the departmental policy and procedural development and implementation that directly or indirectly impacts Housing and Residence Life.
Help to establish appropriate timelines for the housing assignment dates, room change dates, consolidation dates, and deadlines and assist with marketing and promotion of such.
Provide direction and accountability for departmental budgets for which they are assigned and for the allocation and utilization of those monies.
Complete additional projects as assigned by the Director
25%: Work with live-in staff (AC's and RA's) to regularly inspect and monitor all facilities with an eye towards health and safety, fire safety, as well as aesthetics.
Oversees the residential conduct system for the campus residential population in conjunction with the Office of Student Conduct
Ensure staff are appropriately trained on submission of student conduct and CARE reports as well as adjudication of cases as assigned
Will serve in on-call rotation and may provide emergency response and confidential referrals to a wide range of services including services which assist with psychological, academic, medical, and legal needs.
Assists in the creation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) that impact the Residential Experience
25%: Serve in a liaison relationship to members of the University faculty, parents, the general public and other departments on campus.
Serves on appropriate University, divisional or departmental committees, task forces, or search committees.
Complete other duties as assigned
