Job Duties:
Community Development—Build positive connections. Know residents of halls by being available and accessible. Support RA programs. Provide programming to residents based on input. Maintain the safety and security of the residence hall. Proactively address roommate issues and work to resolve roommate conflicts. Create positive and supportive environment to support students’ academic success and the mission of the university. Address issues of bias, discrimination, and sexual assault with residential student populations. Collaborate with other departments/programs on campus to provide support for students. Insure that staff and residents are aware of University and Residence Life policies, community standards, and responsibilities. Hold student conduct meetings. Provide informal counseling and co-curricular education to students. Participate in emergency preparedness and emergency response.
Administration of Halls—Administer residential areas by supervising opening and closing. Reports: occupancy, incident/theft/injury, damages, and daily logs. Oversee furniture and key inventories. Track residence changes and assignments. Maintain officers in a residence hall office. Assess and address damages and damage billing in halls. Balance and maintain budget for hall programming. Maintain up-to-date files. Address quality of life issues in halls, with focus on retention. Perform weekly building walk-through inspections of halls to insure standards are being maintained. Assure halls comply with applicable fire, health and safety regulations in cooperation with various departments on campus and regulation agencies. Coordinate summer operations including facilities, staffing, and building prep.
Assessment and Committee Involvement—Participate in committee, assessment, and special project work related to student concerns and Residence Life. Activity may be within Residence Life or throughout the University.
Supervision—Hire student staff and actively supervise, train, and evaluate RAs. Meet regularly with RAs individually. Hold weekly staff meetings. Supervise Hall Council when applicable. Provide team building, goal setting, and on-going opportunities for staff development.
Training—Assist with leadership, development, and presentation of departmental staff and student training. Participate in training provided by the University and various departments on campus as assigned by the Associate Director of Residence Life and Housing for Training and Development.
Emergency On-Duty Responsibilities—Participate in rotating professional staff on-call providing 24-hour availability and response. First line member of professional response team for student illness, accident, or other campus emergency situations. Requires ability to interpret University policy and protocol, make judgement calls, as well as make clear and critical decisions under pressure. On-duty rotates weekly among live-in staff members.
