The Area Coordinator's principal duties include supervision of student staff members including selection, training, and evaluation. This position also has responsibilities in student development, facilities management, student conduct, crisis management, and informal student counseling. The Area Coordinator will oversee four buildings (approximately 500 residents), a Senior Resident Assistant, Graduate Assistant, and 14-17 Resident Assistants. This staff member is asked to share their innovative and energetic personality, strong organizational, and time management skills to advance the residential program and student success here at Bellarmine.  

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and work with a team of 14-17 Resident Assistants, 1 Senior Resident Assistant (indirectly), and 1 Graduate Assistant educating the team on competency acquisition through supervision, training, and evaluation of all staff members. (Supervision)
  • Participate in 24-hour on-call duty rotation including night, weekend and holidays utilizing a university cell phone, responding to calls for assistance and emergent situations.  (On-Call)
  • Serve as a retention agent and intervene with students on behalf of the institution when students present risks to their retention or persistence. Refer students to campus resources as needed and actively contribute to the university-wide management system: Beacon. (Student Success)
  • Improve the quality of student engagement in the assigned residential area by interacting and building rapport with residents (knowing names, personal interests, goals for the future, etc.) and providing them with personal support through designated office hours within each community. (Student Success) 
  • Uphold and interpret the rights and responsibilities of all students through consistent and fair policy enforcement.  Adjudicate student conduct within assigned residential community  (Building and Community Management)
  • Support the residential curriculum by participating in the development and execution of inclusive community building, and campus-wide programmatic offerings to advance the department's learning goals of academic success, social integration, cultural competence, as well as personal and communal wellness. (Programming)
  • Manage operations of residential area including budget, maintenance issues, safety and security processes, occupancy, hall opening and closing, key management and damages.  Building management will be in conjunction with the Senior Resident Assistant. (Building and Community Management)
  • Support the academic success of students through personal counseling and development, academic support, crisis, and conflict management.  (Student Success)
  • Collaborate with other departments within the division of student affairs and the university to support students, provide programmatic offerings, and complete administrative responsibilities.  (Administrative)
  • Participate in the management of summer housing, which may include supervision and training of student staff, occupancy and transition management, and completion of other projects. 
  • Support the broader work of the department, division, and institution through service on committees. (Administrative)
  • Facilitate large scale department programmatic offerings such as Hall o Treats, Bellaroo, Hall Olympics, etc. with Graduate Assistant and paraprofessional staff. (Programming)
  • Support the Residence Life Office through staff meeting attendance, aiding in office coverage as needed, and providing excellent customer service to prospective and current students, families, on-campus partners, and community constituents.  (Administrative)
  • Advise National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) (Advising)


Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to stand for periods of time such as during opening weekend and move-ins. 
  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel or related field required 
  • Minimum one year experience working within a Housing and Residence Life Department (can include undergraduate and/or graduate experience).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with residence life programming, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work with diverse constituencies, knowledge of principles of student development, and a strong student-centered philosophy is preferred   
  • Ability to manage and motivate staff and students and develop programs is essential
