At Wright State University, Boonshoft School of Medicine is seeking to hire a director of admissions. This person should have a track record of bringing innovation, enthusiasm, and qualified experience to the medical school admissions process.
The mission of Boonshoft School of Medicine is to educate culturally diverse students to become excellent physicians by focusing on generalist training that is integrated, supported, and strengthened by specialists and researchers, all of whom value patient-focused care, community service, and research, and have a passion for improving health in their communities.
This individual will work in close collaboration with the associate dean of student affairs and admissions at the Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM) to oversee the processes leading to the selection of qualified medical school applicants who will go on to fulfill the BSOM mission. Overseeing the admissions processes will be the primary responsibility of this position. The admissions director will lead the recruitment of academically capable students who demonstrate the value-added indicators of BSOM: Ohio residents, rural Ohio applicants, first-generation applicants, applicants from medically underserved and lower socio-economic backgrounds, and applicants from segments of the population underrepresented in medicine. In close collaboration with the associate dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion, the admissions director will promote diversity in the school. A person with knowledge of WebAdmit, holistic application review, and the premedical requirements is crucial to the success of this position.
Required Qualifications::
Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 3 years of experience with medical school admissions and extensive hands-on experience with AMCAS WebAdmit are required.
Preferred Qualifications::
Master's degree, and 3 years of responsible management experience, preferably in higher education, including some supervisory experience.
Essential Functions and percent of time::
45% Manage the admissions office, including hiring, training, developing, and supervising staff. Create, implement, evaluate, and assess workflows and standard operating procedures. Plan and prepare admissions policies for approval, perform audits, prepare reports, and review results to ensure they comply with policies. Responsible for implementing all phases of the admissions process from marketing the program to assisting potential applicants in understanding the admissions requirements. Assist with training of admissions faculty including admissions committee members. Manage the application screening process, the applicant interview process on the day of the interview. Lead the planning of new MD student orientation.
35% Recruitment of qualified applicants into the BSOM. As part of this task, the BSOM admissions director will participate in local, regional, and national recruitment events. During these recruitment events the admissions team will promote awareness of the academic and professional assets of Wright State University and the BSOM. The individual must possess the interpersonal skills necessary to effectively develop professional relationships with undergraduate advisors, premedical student organizations, secondary school counselors, and alumni. This will enable them to identify qualified candidates for recruitment to BSOM or its affiliated programs.
15% Assist in evaluating the outcomes of the admissions process and discussing the results with BSOM leadership and the admissions committee in order to improve policies and practices. Manage the admissions committee meetings preparation, including the meeting schedule, agenda, materials, and follow-up on actions.
5% Ensure admissions policies and procedures adhere to WSU and BSOM policies, legal requirements and LCME accreditation standards.
