Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

The Academic Advisor/Coordinator of the Advisor Learning Program is a centrally deployed professional who's primary responsibility is to coordinate training and professional development opportunities for the WSU academic advising community and serve as an academic advisor for undergraduate students. Responsibilities include developing, coordinating, and assessing the advisor learning program (ALP) for the WSU advising community; scheduling, overseeing the delivery, and tracking attendance of professional development and training activities for academic advisors; assessing the evolving needs of academic advisors throughout the WSU system; coordinating new advisor training on a regular basis; and assisting in the development and distribution of advisor training materials. As an academic advisor, provide quality academic advising and coaching services to students at Washington State University (WSU); carry an academic advising load reflecting a diverse student population; participate in the delivery of ASCC services to include drop-in advising, student workshops, reinstatement activities, career expo and related events, and represent ASCC at recruitment and orientation programs. Provide information and clarification regarding university academic policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. Experience leading or directing the work of others. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage positively and effectively with diverse constituents.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office including Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and exercise professional judgment including the ability to work independently.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel and work some evening and weekend hours.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Previous work experience with program development and event planning
  • Previous work experience in a higher education setting
  • Previous work experience in advising individual students or groups.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
