A job with Student Affairs Marketing provides students the opportunity to work in an agency-like atmosphere where creative problem-solving and collaboration with colleagues lead to the development of effective strategies to build awareness, engagement, and action from target audiences. All Student Affairs Marketing staff will contribute to the creation, implementation, and assessment of various marketing and communications initiatives.
Job Summary
This summer position is a blend of social media and face-to-face marketing efforts. This role is a key communicator through Indiana Memorial Union, Student Affairs, and Student Health Center social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter).
Interacts with incoming first-year students by marketing the various aspects of the IMU, giving away promo items, entering them in drawings, and more. Additional opportunities for strategy, writing, and copy-editing will be available based on skillsets.
Department Specific Responsibilities
Reports to the Director
Works closely with various members of the marketing team and professional staff/clients from around the Division of Student Affairs.
Participates in various meetings, workshops, critiques, and brainstorming sessions as necessary.
Develops innovative and creative media content in line with IMU's branding efforts (i.e. original text, photos, videos and news)
Helps with Student Affairs and Student Health Center social media efforts as needed.
Using a Content Matrix, strategizes, monitors, and posts on social media accounts to engage with the Indiana community regarding the services, promotions, events, and other offerings.
Oversees and maintains the accounts on, but not limited to, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, and other relevant social media platforms
Creates, maintains, and consults the Communications Calendars for social media content, sharing stories with partners, and planning other promotions
Creates monthly and quarterly social media analytics reports to determine the effectiveness and the direction of future strategies
Works collaboratively with team members, colleagues, and campus partners to implement the most effective and engaging strategies
Booth at Sneak Peek o Represents the IMU at Rec. Sports' Sneak Peek event during New Student Orientation for approximately 22 evenings in June and July.
Interacts with incoming students, sharing the various offerings of IMU face-to-face with these students.
Encourages students to follow the IMU on social media, sign up for the IMU email listserv, and encourage them to enter in a drawing and give away promo items.
Other Communications duties as needed o Strategizes various communications for summer and fall campaigns.
Writes copy for ad campaigns and print pieces.
Edits copy on various print and digital platforms.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
SKILLS
Required
Understanding and extensive experience with various social media accounts, how they are best utilized, and how to strategically engage via these platforms
Familiar with social media trends; knowing when to experiment with new tactics and when not to.
Familiarity taking quality photographs and photography principles
Well-versed in design principles
Familiarity using Microsoft Office programs
Fine attention to detail
Professionalism, dependability, and respect for others
Exceptional decision-making skills and autonomy
Exceptional written and communication skills
Performs well in a team-oriented, collaborative atmosphere
Strong sense of curiosity and creativity
Motivated individual: strives for ongoing improvement and is passionate about learning

Preferred
Pursuit of a degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Digital Media, or related field.
Experience managing social media accounts that were not simply personal accounts
Experience taking pictures and filming/editing videos to post to social media.
Understanding of effective marketing tactics
Personable, comfortable talking to others
Additional Information
The student in this role may be asked to continue working into the 2023-24 academic year.
