The Department of Counselor Education (EDCO) at San José State University is recruiting a new tenure-track faculty colleague to join our department beginning in the 2023-24 Academic Year at the rank of Assistant Professor. We invite applicants with expertise in counseling and student support within higher education. Scholars who specialize in community college contexts are especially welcome to apply.
We look forward to welcoming our new colleague to join in preparing our nearly 200 talented and diverse graduate students for educational counseling and related careers in K-12, postsecondary, and community-based contexts. We and our graduates share commitments to advocacy, social justice, and life-long learning. Our students complete a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and Guidance with the option to add courses and fieldwork leading to the Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) School Counseling Credential (required to work as K-12 School Counselors in California), and a Child Welfare & Attendance Authorization. Students also have the option to complete preparatory courses and fieldwork associated with Associate & Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC/LPCC) requirements (see: http://www.sjsu.edu/counselored/). Our department faculty are centered in strong ethical practice, open and inclusive communication, creativity, and academic freedom.
EDCO is one of seven departments in the Connie L. Lurie College of Education, whose faculty, students, staff, alumni, and partners are dedicated to creating meaningful, equitable, and inclusive learning experiences for our diverse community. We take an emancipatory stance in our teaching, research, and service activities. In collaboration with our partners across campus and in the community, we strive to make an impact by transforming our schools and shaping our society to become just and democratic. Our Lurie College family includes approximately 55 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 100 lecturers, 20 staff, and 1,800 students across seven different departments. We are looking for colleagues who are dedicated to critically engaging in their teaching and research, who see strength in the diversity of our student community, and who are committed to challenging themselves and the college as we seek to grow and strengthen our work.
