Brief Summary of Work for this position:

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the LSRC to create a welcoming environment that promotes safety, quality, and excellence
  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, mentors, schedules, and evaluates two graduate assistants and 50+ LSRC student staff members to ensure informal recreation procedures are followed
  • Develops, plans, organizes, schedules, and evaluates informal recreation programing that provides social, recreational and wellness opportunities to the campus community
  • Enhances the academic experience by generating student development experiences through formal classroom training as well as experiential learning and hands on application of knowledge in a collegiate recreation setting
  • Manages LSRC risk management and emergency procedures to ensure LSRC is compliant with UNCW Environmental Health and Safety, applicable state laws, national standards, and regulations. Identifies potential risk and implements standardized safety practices, as necessary. Trains students on First Aid/CPR/AED and PDT and is a first responder in the event of an emergency
  • Partners with leadership in developing, maintaining, and evaluating LSRC facility and operation standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures to meet University and Safety compliance standards
  • In conjunction with UNCW Physical Plant, develops and maintains housekeepers schedules and job responsibilities for daily, weekly, and annual facility cleaning
  • Coordinates regular evaluations of facility and equipment needs including initiating special projects that take place during breaks, holidays, summers, and interim periods
  • Responsible for developing and managing the facilities and operations annual budget
  • Leads evaluation and recognition of program contents, goals, objectives and evaluations for the Department of Campus Recreation
  • Oversees the LSRC Student Advisory Board which includes advising, educational experiences and professional development opportunities

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree; all degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions
  • Two to four years of experience, preferably collegiate recreation, with activity/event scheduling experience; experience with 'sport complex' operations and risk management or the equivalent related experience.
  • Two to four years of experience with student supervision; leading/designing position specific training at the collegiate level or equivalent related experience.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to delegate tasks as appropriate

    Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience :

    • Master's degree; (all degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions) in Recreation, Higher Education, Student Affairs, Sports Management, or related field.
    • Experience leading overall departmental student development and related programming.

    Required Certifications or Licensure:

    Special Certification (all must be obtained within 6 months of employment)
    • Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
    • Blood Borne Pathogen
    • American Red Cross Instructor
