Job Summary:

Essential Duties:

• Provide individual advising and coaching (e.g., guidance counseling) to participants to address academic, personal, career, and financial areas/concerns.
• Assess academic/non-academic need(s), monitor progress and conduct an ongoing evaluation for each student.
• Advise students on academic decisions and campus policies, dropping courses, etc. Participate in New Student and Transfer Orientations.

• Assist with training new advisors and promoting support services to the faculty, staff, and students at UTA.
• Assist CAPPA's Director of Academic and Student Affairs in new and ongoing initiatives.
• Administer the College Success Programs and Initiatives; Program Marketing; and Outreach/Recruitment.
• Assist CAPPA's Director of Academic and Student Affairs with department public relations and participate in campus events and activities, such as visiting groups and special projects as assigned.
• Develop and conduct workshops/seminars in areas related to collegiate skills and life skills, as well as topics related to personal, academic, and career development for college students.
• Give presentations and facilitate instruction of the workshops.
• Maintain effective working relationships with other departments for referrals, consultation, and other services.
• Performs other duties assigned

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of college/university student advising experience, as well as knowledge of higher education procedures or the equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree is highly preferred.
• Two (2) years of experience as an academic advisor at a public R1 University.
• Federal, state, and local policies and procedures governing academic advising functions; and resources provided by academic advising associations such as NACADA and TEXAAN. A working knowledge and ability to utilize the University Catalog is essential.
• Student advocacy; written and verbal interpersonal communication; organizing information and projects; problem solving; adhering to deadlines; taking initiative; student recruitment and outreach; and navigating student information systems.
• Work professionally, collaboratively, and independently; and proficiently use Microsoft Office Programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint.
• Demonstrated willingness and/or experience working collaboratively with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and experiences.
