RHDs create meaningful connections with our students and provide support as they navigate their college experience.  Our department’s success is directly correlated to the contributions and successes of our live-in staff (RHDs and Area Coordinators) and the assistance they provide our residence.

The RHD position is a full-time, live-in role that has primary responsibility for managing the day-to-day operations of one of our residence halls on campus (175-300 primarily first and second year students).  Key functions of this position include: student development, maintaining high contact and visibility within the hall, community building, student staff selection and supervision, serving in a campus-wide on-call rotation, and reporting and following up on maintenance and safety concerns. Ultimately, our RHDs strive to create a sense of belonging for our students to create a positive residential experience and to support the university in student retention.  The RHD reports to an Area Coordinator and serves on a team of approximately 15 Residential Living professional staff.

Responsibilities:

Operation and Administration of the building:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day supervision and administrative operation of a residence hall serving between 175 - 300 primarily first and second year residential students.

  • Report and follow-up on facility concerns to include maintenance, cleaning, safety, and security.

  • Maintain and oversee your hall’s programming and staff development budgets.

  • Learn and use technology platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Roompact, StarRez, Maxient, and other departmental website applications.

Supervision:

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate 5-8 Resident Assistants through weekly staff meetings and regular one-on one meetings.

Advising:

  • Recruit and advise an in-hall student leadership organization, including but not limited to: leadership development, program planning, and budget oversight.

Community Development:

  • Provide leadership and direction in developing and implementing student-development based programming to ensure alignment with departmental and university goals for student success and retention.

  • Foster a sense of belonging and inclusion by developing meaningful relationships with students and maintain a high degree of visibility and availability in the residence hall.

Referrals:

  • Support students through personal, academic, and social concerns and make referrals to appropriate campus resources.

  • Serve as a non-clinical case manager for student behavioral concerns in your hall

  • Act as liaison with academic and staff partners and support Residential Learning Communities (if applicable to your building).

Duty:

  • Participate in an on-call crisis rotation throughout the calendar year to respond to incidents and emergencies, as they occur, for a residential population of approximately 2,000 undergraduate students.

Committees:

  • Serve on departmental committees and on division wide committees (as needed).

Other duties may be assigned:

Necessary Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or Related Field

  • 1-year experience working in collegiate residence life in a live-in position (including undergraduate/graduate work)
