Position Function:
The Coordinator of Student Engagement is responsible for engaging current and prospective students into high demand and high wage careers (Career and Technical Education (CTE)); retention, transfer, and completion initiatives; and student support services (i.e. Success Coaches, Academic Advisors, and others). The Coordinator will also plan and implement programs and support services developed for students through the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI). Provide general support and leadership for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion initiatives.

This is a temporary full-time position funded with grant funding and shall not be continued beyond the life of such funding.  No continuing employment rights are implied.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and host programming to raise awareness of high demand, high wage careers (CTE) amongst current and prospective students.
• Coordinate programming that supports institutional transfer completion goals (i.e. HBCU partnerships).
• Partner with the Workforce and Community Development Division, Recruitment and Outreach Department, and other departments to build greater access to of high demand, high wage careers (CTE) amongst local community and K12 districts (i.e. D3C3 initiative).
• Meet with students and cohorts as needed to provide assistance in overcoming or minimizing barriers. Refer and connect students with s student support services (i.e. Success Coaches, Academic Advisors, and others). Track and maintain student support through degree completion.
• Assist with departmental strategic goals and activities, including student access, success, equity and inclusion initiatives when needed.
• Assist in the selection and awarding process of scholarship opportunities (i.e. micro-scholarships, High School Honors).
• Recruit, train, develop and supervise work-study students, student employees, volunteers and graduate interns for the ODI.
• Regular attendance on campus is required for this position.
• Other duties as assigned.

Related Duties:
• In absence of supervisor, provide leadership and direction of operational activities.
• Attend and represent ODI at meetings when needed.

Hours/Schedule:

Work schedule will typically be day-shift hours (8am-5pm) on campus, with occasional nights or weekends.

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Bachelor’s degree program in Education, Human Services, Social Work or other related field.
• At least one (1) year of experience working with diversity and inclusion initiatives, preferably in an education setting.
• Ability to work with a diverse student populations.
• Strong relationship skills and abilities to be adept at facilitating connections and building partnerships and collaborations.  
• Demonstrated experience in presentation and public speaking, as well as demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of desktop computing, including the Microsoft Office suite.
• Knowledge of online media, graphic design, and video technologies.
• Must be detail-oriented, and a self-starter with the ability to think ahead and plan in advance.
• Must be highly motivated and have the ability to work independently.
• Ability to work with numerous projects and details, multi-task in a fast-paced environment and deal with interruptions.
• Flexibility of work hours.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree.
• A demonstrated commitment to promoting equity, particularly through college access and student retention work in the education setting.
• Experience hosting and facilitating workshops/presentations with diverse audiences.
• Experience providing individualized student support via coaching, mentoring, and/or advising.
• Experience working in a community college setting and/or working with part-time students, adult learner, students with children and commuter students.
• Knowledge of online media, graphic design, and video technologies.
