The Coordinator of Residence Life is a full-time, 12-month, live-on professional staff member in the Office of Residence Life. The Coordinator of Residence Life reports to the Senior Director of Residence Life and shares in the responsibility for all facets of the Residence Life program. The Coordinator of Residence Life leads a residential community (Head of Hall) and has responsibility for supporting a Residence Life initiative (Living-Learning Communities, RA Training and Development, or Marketing).
Head of Hall Responsibilities
Lead and develop a residential community of approximately 550 students living in 2 residence halls
Supervise, develop, and evaluate 8-15 RAs, including 2 Senior RAs
Conduct bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with individual RAs and facilitate weekly staff meetings
Oversee the planning and implementation of all programming initiatives within the residential area
Advise and guide RAs on appropriate student and floor interventions
Hear student conduct cases and educate students within the restorative justice process
Collaborate with campus partners to intervene with and support students of concern and students at-risk
Mediate elevated conflicts that occur between roommates and among residents
Collaborate with Resident Ministers to support student needs
Serve in the on-call duty rotation and support after hours processes that ensure student safety
Manage budget lines for community building, programming, and staff development
Residential Education Responsibilities
Support significant departmental initiative based on interests and needs of Office. Initiatives may include:
Living-Learning Communities: continue program development including fostering faculty relationships and collaborative programming
RA Training and Development: develop and implement August, January, and Spring RA Training periods; lead on-going RA development opportunities
Marketing: continue to increase the social media presence of the Office of Residence Life, including the development of engagement campaigns
Departmental Responsibilities
Supports housing operations functions, including hall opening and closing, occupancy management, access control, follow-up on facilities and housekeeping concerns, and consistent oversight of residence hall facility needs, especially those that affect the student experience
Contribute significantly to RA recruitment, selection, and training processes
Contribute significantly to office, divisional, and institutional commitments as assigned
Perform occasional evening and weekend responsibilities
Thorough knowledge of student development, student leadership and community development theories
Strong oral and written communication and critical thinking skills
Possess values aligned with the mission and identity of John Carroll University
Interest in understanding and supporting John Carroll’s mission to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in College Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, or related field
Previous experience working with living-learning communities, student staff training, and/or departmental marketing
