POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Student Counseling & Wellbeing is responsible for strategic leadership of evidence-based educational programming related to mental health and holistic student wellbeing including an overall vision of student health and wellness promotion across the college.

The Director is also responsible for developing and establishing external partnerships to enhance wellness support on campus; provides strategic direction to Counseling Services and Recreation and Wellness and collaborative guidance and support to other areas within the Department.

The Director of Student Counseling and Wellbeing works in collaboration with CSCC faculty, staff, and external partners to meet the needs of a variety of constituents by providing services that comply with College policies and procedures, state and federal regulations.

The Director of Student Counseling and Wellbeing must be well versed in ensuring quality customer service and delivery of wellness services to a diverse student population. The department participates in strategic initiatives to support enrollment and retention goals, overseeing quality assurance activities, and sharing responsibility in working with an integrated student information system.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Student Wellness Leadership

Provides direct leadership to College Counseling Services, strategic leadership to Recreation and Wellness, and guidance and collaborative support to Student Advocacy (and other areas as this work expands).

Utilizes evidence-based wellbeing promotion approaches to develop a vision, strategies, and programs that advance a culture of holistic health and wellbeing in addressing critical priority areas for student wellness at the College. Supervises staff members, communicates to students and faculty, including proactive outreach and holistic support. Leads the college in public health initiatives and responses.

Provides consultative assistance, training and/or technical assistance to the campus community on issues and policies related to student wellbeing including increased awareness and best practices. Collaborates with colleagues across campus in planning and implementing large-and small-scale programming and presentations for the campus that promote health and wellbeing.

Daily Operations & Operational Leadership

Directs areas of responsibility and staff by recruiting and hiring, assigning and delegating tasks, providing direction, resolving work problems, communicating job expectations, training employees, and developing professional growth opportunities. Establishes and implements goals, and their outcome measures, then communicates them to the team. Utilizes assessment tools to determine customer satisfaction and student success and initiates plans to address any concerns.

Conducts annual employee evaluations, provides ongoing feedback and coaching, and effectively recommends pay increases, promotions and other personnel actions. Approves leaves and authorizes overtime as appropriate. Administers disciplinary actions upon approval and in collaboration with Human Resources. Interprets, explains, carries out and enforces the College's policies. Provides budgetary oversight of student wellbeing operations.

Provides support to the department and may provide in-person and online consultation services to students regarding their wellness as well as to faculty and staff regarding student wellness.

Ensures the implementation of appropriate follow-up support to students identified as having significant mental and overall health issues. Provides resources to students to help them evaluate, identify, and seek assistance to maintain their health and wellness. Develops a coordinated comprehensive schedule of health and wellness activities, programs, and events throughout the year.

Fiscal & Administrative

Researches and writes grants to help fund department initiatives. Develops and maintains a budget that correlates with the needs and cost of student wellbeing while being fiscally competent. Maintain departmental records as well as confidential and sensitive student and employee records.

Tracks student success and retention, implements proactive strategies, and assesses this work for continuous improvement. Investigates critical incidents as they arise and communicate with campus partners and administrators as required. Continually evaluates health and wellbeing opportunities for students, both on and off campus. Implements satisfaction and needs surveys to students and faculty regularly and uses this information as well as other institutional data to guide work. Provides data and reporting to senior leadership when needed or requested.

Collaborates with IT and other departments, as necessary, to assure the proper maintenance, viability, and functionality of technologies needed to administer services. Works with the Student Wellbeing area on long-term planning.

Guides assessment and evaluation of wellness programs and services for students.

Building Partnerships

Facilitates the development/enhancement of collaborative programming, cross-functional projects, supports holistic and cross-functional efforts and alignment to enhance student support. Cultivates a collegial relationship and acts as partner with faculty and staff to address issues related to student wellbeing.

Serves as resource to the college and central Ohio community on student wellbeing and builds effective relationships with local businesses, organizations, and community partners to ensure access to student health and wellness opportunities.

Collaborates with other student wellbeing offices, building a network of colleagues to benchmark and identify best practice. Serves on various college committees related to student wellness.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community. Develops and maintains strategic partnerships with diverse groups and communities.

Partners strategically with Talent Acquisition to ensure the best Diversity, Equity & Inclusion practices are utilized in hiring that results in the hiring and retention of a diverse faculty and staff. Helps to ensure the College meets its responsibilities in identifying problem areas and systemic concerns while reporting complaints alleging discrimination.

Takes responsibility for creating a welcoming, inclusive, and productive work and learning environment where employees and students feel valued and able to contribute to their full potential, regardless of their differences. Assists with conducting workforce analytics to identify potential inhibitors of a workplace environment that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
Performs other duties as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Attends all required meetings and trainings. Represents Student Wellness on committees and in general to the college.

Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity and meets tight timelines and deadlines, with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners.

Ensures department and College name and image is perceived positively by external as well as internal audience/stakeholders.

Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Health/Exercise Promotion, Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work or a closely related field.

  • An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
