Under the direction of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment and in conjunction with the Student Affairs division, the counselor works with a diverse student population at the University. The counselor provides individual and group evaluation and assessment of students, and utilizes the available resources to document clinical activity. The counselor works with various mental health and medical providers and designs, coordinates, and implements elements of health promotion and prevention efforts, including programs targeted to the prevention of suicide, and sexual assault, and alcohol/substance abuse. The counselor provides and coordinates outreach and training for the entire University community, including wellness and risk reduction, and works collaboratively with the campus community, particularly through the CARE Team, to promote student and campus-wide safety. The counselor maintains and enhances clinical protocols, and adheres to the professional regulations mandated by the state of Tennessee.
COUNSELING
Conduct individual assessments following departmental guidelines and professional and ethical standards. Develop and implement appropriate educational materials to complement interventions.
Facilitate psychoeducational and process-orientated counseling groups.
Provide culturally responsive services to underserved populations and higher-risk groups (i.e. BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Veterans, students with disabilities, etc.), and to international students.
Consult with parents, faculty, and staff regarding questions, concerns, interventions, and referrals.
Provide urgent and crisis response services, including walk-in crisis services and after-hours/weekend on-call coverage. Respond to emergencies in a timely manner.
Identify program needs and provide recommendations to supervisor.
Utilize technology in providing therapy and interventions.
Participate in case consultation
Maintain required licensures and certifications in good standing.
OUTREACH
Develop and implement a variety of paraprofessional and professional trainings, programs, presentations, and workshops on various wellness topics (i.e. wellness, eating disorders, anxiety/coping skills, self-care, adjustment, sleep, suicide prevention, alcohol and other drugs, etc.).
Facilitate workshops and trainings with students, faculty, and staff. Plan events and develop, present, and evaluate materials for University constituencies' specific needs and goals.
Facilitate, support, and engage in Student Affairs wellness initiatives, i.e. Wellness Wednesdays.
Serve on designated University committees.
Engage in special projects as assigned.
Work collaboratively with the CARE Team to promote student and campus-wide safety.
EVALUATION & ASSESSMENT
Provide evaluation and assessment of students.
Provide timely documentation of clinical services, including monthly and annual reporting.
Provide timely documentation of clinical findings regarding students, and communicate with identified University constituents.
Provide data as requested for reporting purposes, i.e. CHASCo and other grants.
Contribute to statistical reports for clinical services and outcomes-based assessment.
Participate in the preparation of unit reports and federally mandated reports.
ADMINISTRATIVE
Participate in regular group and individual staff meetings and other staff development activities
Maintain clinical documentation in alignment with University protocol (software, etc.) that is in accordance with industry standards and ethical guidelines.
Work collaboratively to create, edit, publish, and distribute educational materials and brochures.
Maintain and contributor to enhancement of clinical protocols.
Facilitate administrative aspects of training programs.
Perform general office duties in absence of support staff (phones, booking, correspondence, etc.).
Participate in regular multidisciplinary meetings.
Maintain a consistent and dependable work schedule, adhering to state requirements for employee work hours.
