The Assistant/Senior Assistant Director of Consulting leads initiatives to support the career readiness and professional development of all Binghamton University students. This position focuses on career development and consulting best practices and will serve as the lead for pre-health/health science initiatives, consulting and relationship development with various stakeholders.
Career Consulting The assistant/senior assistant director leads strategic outreach and engagement through career consulting. This position will support the vision, and forward plan for career consulting within the Fleishman Career Center, supervising career consultants and ensuring quality interactions with our staff and students. The position will hold consulting appointment hours in various spaces on campus and at the Health Science campus to best serve Binghamton University students who are pre-health or have a Health Science interest. This role will also support strategic outreach to populations with low engagement and in academic programs with traditionally lower placement rates.
Pre-Health/Health Science Lead With a large student body interested in pre-health or health science careers, this position will serve as the lead for programming, outreach and education related to pre-health and health science careers. The assistant/senior assistant director will serve as the liaison with Decker College, the Pharmacy School, and support students in any degree program interested in pre-health or health science careers. In collaboration with the senior associate director for employer engagement and partnerships, the assistant/senior assistant director will work to integrate employers and alumni into career education for students with an emphasis on pre-health and health science careers. Our goal is to cultivate opportunities for students to make connections with employers and alumni to benefit their career goals and teach students about building a support network for themselves.
The assistant/senior assistant director will also be responsible for managing 1-3 professional staff, it will be critical for this person to have strong leadership skills. The assistant/senior assistant director will assign workload, manage their team, and complete performance programs and evaluations for professional staff.
Core Responsibilities:
Set goals and provide overall leadership for career consulting; review consulting data and evaluate students career consulting experience
Develop initiatives and approaches to engage faculty, alumni and employers within the pre-health/health science industry
Provide 1:1 support to students for appointment hours including supporting walk-in services in a variety of locations on main campus and the health science campus
Supervise at least 1 professional staff
Requirements:
Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
Master's degree (or higher) in higher education or a related field (ex. Health Science)
4+ years of professional experience in career services or related functional area
Experience developing career education and programming content to engage students in career development
Strategic thinker, with ability to brainstorm and collaborate with a team to develop long-term strategies that support the success of Binghamton University students
Self-starting, creative professional with the ability to create and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Demonstrated experience working cooperatively and collaboratively with students, employers, staff and faculty with diverse backgrounds
Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to write compelling career education content that engages the reader
Must share core values of campus collaboration, high ethical standards and dedication to what is best for students, employers and Binghamton University
Preferred:
Experience supervising professional staff, student staff or paraprofessional staff
Strong knowledge and interest in pre-health, health science industry
Knowledge of student development and career development theories
Preferred knowledge of a career management and higher education systems, such as Handshake, Banner, and Brightspace
