Job Description:

Administrative Oversight: Assists the director in providing administrative oversight for all counseling services and programs offered by the center. Assumes the director's duties in director's absence. Chiefly responsible for the coordination of the center's clinical activities. In consultation with the staff, develops and implements policies and philosophy of clinical operations. Assists the director in the coordination, recruitment, training, supervision, development and evaluation of the professional and support staff members. Establishes treatment parameters for the center. Assists in the creation and submission of annual reports as required. Provides input into the administrative supervision of the center's support staff (Administrative Support Associates). Other Administrative Duties: University Responsibilities - Participates in various Student Affairs committees as related to student development related topics. Provides consultation with other university offices for referrals and treatment of student clients. (Such consultations will focus on the management of student counseling related concerns, recommendations for student services programming and design.) Attends department, division and university meetings as required.

Provides leadership and supervision to assigned staff members.

Clinical duties: Chiefly responsible for the coordination of the center's clinical activities and graduate training program. Coordinates the clinical services and related record keeping (including electronic databases) to ensure compliance with ethical and legal standards as well as to ensure responsiveness to the needs of the campus community. Monitors case assignment processes, troubleshoots clinical service delivery problems and handles suggestions regarding clinical services; provides primary consultation to clinical staff regarding policy interpretation and management of difficult cases. Coordinates the graduate training program, developing and implementing selection and training criteria. Provides supervision of graduate level counseling internship students. Coordinates supervision of all undergraduate and graduate students who will be performing duties within CAPS. Engages in clinical services to students, consultation with faculty/staff and making appropriate referrals. Will review, make recommendation to the director and oversee the implementation of data supported improvements to clinical services. Assists the director in leading the professional staff in setting goals, planning, conducting and evaluating the Counseling Center's clinical responsibilities. Responsible for updating the clinical part of the policy manual and will consult the director on this matter. Conduct annual review of CAPS Policy and Procedures Manual and other required center procedures. Coordinates supervision for all professional credentialing and licensing. May provide supervision for clinical staff at director's discretion. Assists in the supervision of administrative support staff related to adhering to clinical guidelines and policies to support the provision of efficient and effective services to students. Primary provider of clinical consultation to professional staff as needed, particularly related to crisis situations and difficult cases. Provides feedback to the director in the performance evaluation of individual professional staff members.

Crisis Management: Establishes policy for and acts as role model/mentor in crisis intervention. Assists in establishing or delegating staff to develop weekly emergency crisis hours. Participates in the on-call rotating schedule. Establishes policy that outlines the process for administrative consultation, making arrangements for hospitalization, arranging for next day interventions and appropriate follow-up for students in crisis. Assists in providing assessment of clients in acute crisis for voluntary and involuntary hospitalizations.

Other requirements: Maintain licensure through continuing education. Maintains membership in Association for the Coordination of Counseling Center Clinical Services, attending annual meeting and remaining active on their listserv to keep up to date on the trends in clinical services around the country

Management Preference:
At least 5 years of experience in a college/university counseling center is preferred. Supervision licensure (or supervision license eligible) in the state of North Carolina.
