General Summary: Middlesex Community College is committed to creating equity-centered pathways for high school students to attend college. To that end, the College is home to some of the largest number of dual enrollment/concurrent enrollment/early college programs. The Dean of Education and K-16 Partnerships is responsible for the support, development, implementation, and assessment of innovative educational collaborations among the college's  K-16 partners, community constituency groups, and individual adult learners seeking degree completion and/or competency-based credit, with the goal of promoting student achievement at all educational levels.  Under the direction of the Provost, the Dean of Education and K-16 Partnerships will promote student success through the design of systems, services, and strategies linking and aligning postsecondary education with prior learning. Consistent with this goal, the Dean will lead initiatives that build collective capacity across academic disciplines and student services to provide high-quality approaches to college readiness, degree attainment, and student success for a diverse student body.

The Dean of Education & K-16 Partnerships is accountable for team performance and supports managers in their roles to meet College and divisional goals.  The Dean carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Middlesex Community College's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; creating an environment which supports innovative teaching and learning; appraising performance and implementing improvement plans when necessary; resolving problems and concerns presented by faculty and students.  The individual who serves in this position is equity-minded and committed to expansive excellence, inclusion, diversity, equity, and continuous professional improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the integrity, excellence, and ongoing development of the Education Department 
  • Coordinator K-16 partnerships
  • Build existing and foster new partnerships with public school districts that result in tangible and measurable outcomes
  • Coordinate K-16 vertical alignment curriculum, assessment, and professional development activities
  • Manage K-12 Linkages portion of the College's Perkins grant including budgeting, programming, and reporting. Oversee [DO1] support staff and high school and college/university articulation agreements. Design and maintain development, renewal, and approval system for high school and college/university articulation agreements
  • Collaborate with Admissions & Recruitment, Advising and Enrollment Management in the creation and expansion of dual enrollment, concurrent enrollment, and early college models, the awarding of articulation credit, and other initiatives linking Middlesex to K-12 districts
  • Engage with Admissions and Recruitment, Advising and Enrollment Management to design and continuously improve internal communication systems for information related to high school and transfer pathways
  •  Participate in the Development of Higher Education's (DHE) PARCC Campus Network, keep current on PARCC development, and communicate relevant information to the Middlesex PARCC Campus Engagement Team, among other related DHE initiatives
  • Represent Middlesex on community and school district boards such as Technical School Advisory Boards and Community Education Foundation
  • Provides leadership, encouragement, and supervision to the Education Department Chair, Directors, and Coordinators to ensure the development and implementation of institutional and divisional initiatives and policies.
  • Functions as part of the Provost's leadership team, serving on appropriate working groups and councils.
  • Establishes, maintains, and monitors policies that provide for optimal educational practices in the division.
  • Provides oversight of articulation agreements to ensure appropriate educational and career pathways for programs within the division.
  • Develops and manages grants to support activities in the division.
  • Collaborates with personnel from other departments and Academic Divisions to ensure effective program implementation.
  • Resolves student and faculty issues; collaborates with others as necessary to achieve resolution.  Oversees all faculty and student grievance procedures and insures adherence to college affirmative action and Title IX policies.
  • Promotes expansive excellence for diverse students, faculty, staff and community members.
  • Administers specific components of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, including reviewing the workload for full-time faculty, evaluating faculty and department chairs, and making recommendations for contract renewal, promotion, tenure, and sabbatical requests. Addresses employee relations issues through consultation with Human Resources while ensuring alignment with collective bargaining agreements and personnel handbooks.
  • Determines priorities for budgetary expenditures; Develops, plans, and manages the budget to ensure the acquisition of necessary equipment and supplies for classrooms, laboratories, and other instructional settings.monitors budgets and electronically approves purchase requests.
  • Executes the academic vision of the Provost by developing and implementing college and divisional activities consistent with the college's mission and strategic direction
  • Develops schedules for all classes offered within the Division 
  • Coordinates searches for full-time faculty and staff positions.

Other Duties and Responsibilities as assigned, including:

  • Promote and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty and staff
  • Participate in state and national organizations to keep current on trends and practices


Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree or higher in an academic discipline or in a related field such as Curriculum and Instruction or Leadership in Higher Education
  • Experience in designing and offering professional development activities for faculty
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum design and instructional technology
  • Experience working with community partners including high schools
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; self-starter; able to provide team leadership
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively to set and achieve common goals and the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing
  • Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Postsecondary administration experience at minimum at the director, department chair, or program coordinator level
  • Experience in curriculum development and the use of outcomes assessment to drive curricular innovation and improvement
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the comprehensive community college mission
  • Experience working with diverse populations to create an inclusive and collegial campus climate
  • Bilingual skills a plus, Spanish or Khmer


Additional Information:

Salary Range: $110,000 -$120,000 actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience. Employees of Middlesex Community College are considered employees of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and receive benefits, which include:
