Position Summary:

Applies professional knowledge and expertise in analyzing and implementing occupational safety regulations serving as lead and safety liaison to the Division of Student Affairs to support workplace safety efforts at the University. Conducts safety inspections/trainings/investigations and assesses the safety of equipment and work sites while demonstrating good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions or recommendations for improvement that are in line with Cal/OSHA regulations, University policies, and industry best practices. Decisions may impact individual work, other EH&S programs, other departments and / or segments of the organization. Works independently under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Safety Services and possess strong written and verbal communication skills to work successfully with Student Affairs management to implement processes and procedures. Work is reviewed upon completion to ensure predetermined objectives are adequately met and that application of professional / technical judgment is sound.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Thorough knowledge / understanding of specific EH&S field(s) including related laws and regulations; and general knowledge / understanding of all EH&S fields with focus on Occupational safety, and a working knowledge of industrial hygiene and ergonomics. Thorough knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related Cal/OSHA standards and guidelines. Thorough written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and skill to communicate effectively with Student Affairs staff, their management, EH&S management, and student workers in a diverse environment.
Preferred:
ASP or CSP certification preferred. Professional certification preferred.
Strong skill to appropriately use technology and relevant scientific equipment as required.
Special Conditions Required:
Must have a valid CA Driver's license and participate in the DMV Pull-notice program Must comply with UC vaccination policies
