Position Summary
The Residence Life Coordinator is a 12-month live-on/in position that oversees the residence halls on the PrattMWP College of Art and Design campus in Utica, N.Y. The position includes evening and weekend hours and participation in professional staff on-call rotation. The Residence Life Coordinator directly supervises 9-10 Resident Assistants (students), attends and leads meetings, upholds hall rules and regulations as outlined in the Student Handbook, responds/handles crisis management situations, performs departmental responsibilities, and assists with programming with the RAs and Student Activities and Leadership Coordinator.

Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute (Munson-Williams) is an internationally prominent fine arts center serving diverse audiences through three program divisions – Museum of Art, School of Art, and Performing Arts. Munson-Williams was founded in 1919 and hosts some 600 events annually where patrons enjoy exhibitions, performances, art classes, and family-oriented activities.
The Museum of Art is renowned for its art collection and iconic building designed by Phillip Johnson. Among the nation’s most significant mid-sized art museums, its distinguished permanent collection is focused on 300 years of fine and decorative arts, with strengths in 19th-century American painting, sculpture, and decorative arts, works on paper including photography, and European and American modern and contemporary painting and sculpture.
The School of Art offers a robust community arts education program featuring a wide range of art classes. Munson-Williams also includes PrattMWP College of Art and Design, a college program affiliated with Pratt Institute, Brooklyn. At PrattMWP, 200 students spend the first two years of their bachelor of fine arts degree program on the Munson-Williams campus in Utica before completing their studies at Pratt’s main campus in Brooklyn.
The Performing Arts division presents world-famous soloists and ensembles, rising stars, recitals with commentary, cinema, family programs, outdoor festivals and concerts, and a wide array of art-related events in the museum’s 270-seat auditorium or sculpture court, which seats 500 patrons.
Munson-Williams is located in the heart of New York State with easy travel to the Adirondack region, Cooperstown, Syracuse, and Albany, and just a few hours from Boston, New York, and Montreal.

Essential Job Functions
Resident Assistants
Supervises 9 to 10 RA’s assigned to each residential hall as paraprofessional staff selected from first year PrattMWP students to serve as RA’s during their sophomore year
Provide leadership, consistent and constructive feedback on job performance, supervise the RA staff during Pre-College if offered
Facilitate the RA evaluation process each fall
Building Management
Work with Facilities and Campus Safety on maintenance, safety, and security of the residence halls
Coordinate health and fire safety inspections and follow-up on any safety concerns
Student Conduct, Crisis Management
Responsible for upholding Munson-Williams’ rules and regulations as outlined in all handbooks, including the PrattMWP Student Handbook, in a proactive and educational manner
Handle crisis management situations (mental health, roommate conflicts, student conduct, staff issues) including appropriate response in accordance with Munson-Williams policies
Act as part of the professional on-call rotation (Academic Year, Pre-College Program) and reach out to students of concern on campus
Act as hearing officer for conduct cases during the academic year
Community Building, Programming, Special Events Planning
Be a positive and active presence in the residence halls by providing high quality co-curricular programs designed to create vibrant residence hall communities
Manage the RA programming model
Provide assistance with Student Activities or other projects within Student Life or Munson-Williams as assigned by the Student Life Assistant Director
Help facilitate Orientation, Open House, Family and Alumni Weekend, and Accepted Student Reception
Administration and Departmental Responsibilities
May be required to remain on campus during fall or spring breaks as needed for PrattMWP students in residence
Participate in departmental functions, projects, or committees as assigned, including but not limited to: housing operation management, opening and closing of the residence halls, RA staff selection for the academic year
Participate in staff training and development opportunities offered by Residence Life and other campus departments
Pre-College Programming
Help facilitate all residential and programmatic aspects of the Pre-College Program
Assist with weekend off-campus activities and on campus during open studio hours
Will serve on interdepartmental committees as required and complete other duties as assigned

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $36,000 to $38,000 with on-campus housing and meals when PrattMWP is in session
