The Coordinator for Community Engagement is responsible for developing campus-wide civic and community engagement experiences to enhance the growth and education of a diverse student body. The Coordinator will be responsible for civic and community engagement program logistics, create a comprehensive series of outreach efforts to all campus and community members that support volunteerism, assess all program activities, and report outcomes. The Coordinator will also partner with staff on student development programs that highlight civic and community engagement and work in partnership with unit staff in the development and execution of student involvement and leadership programs.

Duties:

  • Develops a series of civic and community volunteer experiences for the student body that connect with a unit mission, division goals, and university priorities. Responsible for program decision-making, research and development, marketing coordination, outreach, and budget management. Partners with campus and community members in developing and maintaining a portfolio of volunteer opportunities, and tracking student volunteerism using unit/division/university reporting systems.
  • Partners with alumni, faculty, and staff in creating collaborative civic and community engagement programs. Includes but are not limited to recruiting faculty and staff to serve as program presenters and service-learning site leaders for domestic/international alternative spring break programs. Partners with local government agencies and non-profit organizations in providing students with a variety of volunteer opportunities that connect coursework with out-of-classroom experiences.
  • Recruits, selects, trains, and assesses student volunteers and assigned student staff and serves in an advisory capacity to student program planning committees, Hawks 4 Community RSO, and/or unit-wide planning committees.
  • Responsible for assessing the success of civic and community engagement programs. Reports assessment initiatives and results with Associate Director to ensure that program learning outcomes align with the unit’s mission, Division of Student Affairs goals, and university priorities.
  • Works in partnership with the Coordinator for Organizations and Activities in developing and presenting workshops for student organization leaders on a variety of civic and community engagement opportunities. Assists the Assistant Director with programs such as Hawk Leadership Institute, Annual Leadership Retreat, Servant Leader Scholar Program, Leadership retreats, Peer Mentor Program, and other new initiatives.
  • Collaborates with office staff with office-wide programs and other community-building events. Supervises assigned student employees. Provides training support for Student Involvement Peer Advisors. Provides any advising support to leadership or community engagement planning committees or unit-wide planning committees.

  1. Master's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Education, or a related field to be conferred no later than May 2023.
  2. Full-time experience working with university/college campus activities and student groups in a college or university setting.
  3. Experience building/refining service-learning programs, volunteer opportunities, and civic engagement programs for a diverse student population. 
  4. Experience building relationships with local community partners and non-profit organizations
  5. Experience with event planning (reservations and permits, budgets and contracts, marketing, and assessment).
  6. Knowledge of group dynamics as well as the ability to lead, oversee, and supervise the activities of others.
  7. Knowledge of organizational and management skills including budget management, planning, evaluation and assessment, and effective marketing
  8. Knowledge of Anthology Engage student engagement platform.
  9. Skills in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  10. Availability to work nights and weekends when needed to attend events and meet with students, including travel that may require overnight stays.
  11. Ability to exhibit a positive attitude and to deal with coworkers, students, faculty, and staff tactfully and courteously to maintain effective service-oriented relationships.
  12. Ability to train and develop student leaders, individually and in groups, and ability to identify and develop leadership opportunities for students.

Desired:

Continuous experience working with university/college campus activities, leadership programs, and community/civic engagement programs in a college or university setting.

Experience with living-learning communities.

Experience building student volunteer opportunities with federal, state, and local agencies.

Experience with student leadership training programs, and student activities.

Experience working with Anthology/Campus Labs or other student engagement platforms.

Bilingual Skillset.
