Under the general direction of the Director, Residential Facilities Operations, the Associate Director serves on the department leadership team sharing responsibility for servicing a residential housing program for over 2,100 students with an annual operating budget of over $35 million. Responsible for assisting with the comprehensive management of the university’s student housing facilities including 13 residence hall, apartment and suites buildings, grounds, and physical plant operations. Maintains direct supervisory responsibility for custodial and grounds operations including 20-24 custodial and grounds staff members. Administers an annual custodial and grounds operating budget and coordinates summer operations. Serves in a 2nd-level on-call duty rotation, provides crisis intervention and emergency response, and makes referrals as appropriate. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university. A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience supervising custodial and/or grounds operations in a residential housing community or similar building/facility. Ability to develop, implement, and monitor departmental budgets. Ability to independently interpret, communicate, and apply policies and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment subject to frequent interruptions.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree from an accredited college or university. Ability to effectively supervise custodial and grounds operations staff. Ability to cultivate and maintain a positive and productive working atmosphere in the department. Ability to develop cooperative relationship with other University departments. Knowledge of and ability to establish workplace security and safety.
Ability to develop cooperative relationships with off-campus housing resources including vendors. Ability to work independently, plan, organize, coordinate and perform daily and long-range activities. Ability to exercise initiative and establish priorities. Knowledge of department and University policies and procedures in order to effectively support the operation of the department. Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in custodial and grounds operations. Experience operating a LEED certified facility.
