Job Description

Idaho State University is seeking an Assistant Director of Clinical Services (ADCS) to join a talented team of mental health professionals at the ISU Counseling and Testing Service (CATS). The ADCS represents the department across the university community and represents the Director in their absence. This position reports to the Director and serves as the coordinator for mental health services, policies, procedures and operations.

Key responsibilities include oversight of clinical functions of the center including but not limited to waitlist management, primary back-up to on-call staff, managing Titanium (EMR), overseeing confidentiality training to all staff, oversee file management, and the monitoring of center clinical policies/procedures to ensure ethical and accessible service is provided. The ADCS will work in coordination with the Director to ensure that CATS is responsive to the needs of students, the Division of Student Affairs, and Idaho State University as a whole. ADCS will assist in report writing, budgetary review, and other administrative tasks. The ADCS will also partner with the director in the review and oversight of staff workloads and responsibilities. The ADCS is based in Pocatello but will also assist (through consultation and coordination of policies) counseling services on ISU's Idaho Falls and Meridian campuses as well as the implementation of any 3rd party contracts for service providers or online screening contracts.

In addition to these administrative tasks, the ADCS maintains the functions, although to a lesser extent as limited by administrative tasks, of a senior clinical staff member. This includes provision of clinical services (e.g., individual and/or group counseling); consulting with students, staff, faculty, and other Student Affairs offices; engagement in outreach programs; provision of emergency and triage services; supervision of Masters and Doctoral level trainees; and service on Student Affairs and other University committees when needed.

Leadership Requirements:

  • Working within a cohesive and collegial leadership team that manages a mission-driven department as part of a collaborative, mutually accountable team
  • Fully embracing and enacting a leadership philosophy centered on building trust, compassion, stability, and hope
  • Being committed to a relationship-based work environment that values authenticity, integrity, and personal engagement
  • Passionate about leading teams and establishing departmental strategic plans and goals in alignment with ISU's student-centered mission

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of professional, clinical experience
  • Demonstrated skilled performance in a position of responsibility in a center or clinic providing mental health care (e.g. outreach, training, clinical coordination, etc.)
  • Mental health crisis intervention experience
  • Licensed or license eligible in Idaho as a psychologist, counselor, or social worker at the time of hire
  • Strong clinical skills and commitment to clinical work and the well-being of college students
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
  • Evidence of collaboration and flexibility in working with others
  • Commitment/advocacy in the service of diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a clinic or campus director/coordinator of clinical operations
  • Outreach, group, training/supervision, or consultation experience
  • Experience in clinical supervision of practicum students
  • Experience and/or strong interest in one or more of the following areas: Trauma, Veterans, service to lower SES populations, students from marginalized populations (e.g., LGBTQ+); eating/body image issues; biofeedback; substance abuse; mindfulness
  • Bilingual (Spanish)

This position will remain open until it is filled; however, priority consideration will be given to applications received prior to April 6, 2023. Salary will be between $86,000 and $90,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
