The Collaborative Health Studies Coordinating Center (CHSCC) is an academic organization in the University of Washington Department of Biostatistics with over 30 years of experience running multi-site epidemiologic research studies and clinical trials. The CHSCC is a collaborative effort, involving faculty, staff, and students, to provide expertise in study design, data collection, data management, and statistical analysis. The CHSCC is funded by grants and contracts worth over $10M annually in diverse areas such as heart disease, kidney disease, and cystic fibrosis. Our mission is to support studies that will ultimately improve public health.

The CHSCC has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Computer Specialist. As part of our team, you will design and develop websites used in the conduct of our research. You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively to produce high quality websites that reflect the important research studies coordinated by the CHSCC.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Collaborate with a diverse set of research staff to understand requirements, plan, design, and develop specifications for technical projects.
•Design and develop Drupal web sites and web applications that meet the needs of our research studies.
•Create real-time web reports that track study progress and quality control.
•Work on study data collection and data tracking systems.
•Upgrade existing Drupal 7 sites.
•Test and debug new and existing web features, services, and pages, including mobile or responsive designs.
•Provide routine website upgrades and maintenance.
•Communicate with personnel at UW and other institutions around the country to trouble shoot problems and provide support.

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
•At least three years of progressively responsible web developer and/or lead programmer experience in an IT environment with experience using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, JSON on a LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP).
•Development experience with Drupal, including module development, theming/front end development, and site administration.
•Mastery of web fundamentals, like HTML/CSS
•Strong knowledge of JavaScript, PHP, Git
•Excellent written and verbal communication.
•Outstanding interpersonal skills, including team ethic and relationship building.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.

DESIRED:
•Experience with any of the following: SQL, Python (Django and Pandas), Puppet
•Previous experience in a scientific research environment
•Demonstrated expertise or education in user interface design, interaction design, and/or information design.
•Experience with graphic design for the web, including familiarity with graphics software.
