Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), part of Vaden Health Center at Stanford University, invites applicants for the position of Eating Disorder Specialist/Clinical Care Manager. CAPS is a college mental health clinic with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals who are dedicated to the pursuit of clinical excellence, organizational diversity, and social justice. Vaden Health Center is within the Division of Student Affairs, which advances student development and learning, fosters community engagement, and empowers students and staff to thrive.

Qualified applicants should submit a CV and a cover letter that specifically addresses their expertise in the treatment of eating disorder concerns, their work with mental health care service provision and coordination, and their experience in supporting and empowering individuals living with more severe or persistent mental health conditions or psychological disability. Applicants will share contributions in the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion in their cover letter and CV.

The successful candidate will have a commitment to cultural humility and equity. They will demonstrate a history of working across diverse identities (including but not limited to race, gender, sexuality, ability status, and SES) and a commitment to inclusivity. The candidate will have a working understanding of the strengths of diverse students as well as an awareness of the role that systems play in privileging certain groups of students while marginalizing others. The successful candidate will have the skills to provide culturally sensitive care and resource and referral management for Stanford students with mental health concerns that require higher levels of care and support.

JOB PURPOSE:

Provide leadership in comprehensive clinical care management services to students, with a focus on students with eating disorder concerns. Uphold clinical excellence and continuous learning aligned with the values of cultural humility, equity, and inclusion.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide comprehensive mental health services, including complex care management, crisis assessment and intervention, individual and group clinical services, treatment planning, and outreach services to students with eating disorder concerns.
  • Provide clinical and logistical support as needed to students with high acuity, complex mental health needs as they transition through different levels of care.
  • Provide referral support for students with eating disorder concerns who need more intensive services which may include hospitalization, residential or day treatment programs, or other levels of ongoing outpatient care. Participate in treatment planning and manage referral needs.
  • Provide senior-level consultation and training to clinical colleagues and campus partners on supporting students with eating disorder concerns and other high-acuity mental health needs across a range of campus settings.
  • Liaise in a leadership role between the clinic and other campus resources and actively participate in developing care plans, including facilitating referrals and support for students leaving or returning to the university.
  • Evaluate and respond to emergency situations; provide senior-level consultation to clinical colleagues and campus partners for urgent/crisis situations.
  • Maintain documentation and quality improvement data on students with complex care needs.
  • Provide input to senior leadership on key trends involving eating disorder concerns and high-acuity mental health needs, while adhering to HIPAA confidentiality policies.
  • Lead the clinic in growing the clinical referral network for students; liaise between the clinic and community providers.
  • Maintain and develop the clinic database for community care resources.
  • Participate in clinical, educational, and administrative meetings for the clinic.
  • Participate in campus outreach programming and support as needed.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.

Job Requires:

  • Master's degree in social work, psychology, or related field, with two years post-degree experience (completed before licensure); and three years of post-licensure experience.

OR

  • PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology with one year of post-degree experience (completed before licensure); and three years of post-licensure experience.

Licensure: California Licensure in one or more of the following fields:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
  • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor
  • Licensed Psychologist

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Clinical expertise in evaluation, crisis intervention, and treatment planning support for students with eating disorders and other high-acuity needs.
  • Proven ability to provide culturally-sensitive care to diverse constituencies and to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary colleagues.
  • Knowledge of ethical standards, relevant state and HIPAA laws regulating the privacy and confidentiality of health information, and mandated reporting statutes.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Proficiency with timely completion of clinical documentation and administrative tasks
  • Proven effectiveness in project/service development, implementation, and initiative planning
  • Demonstrated skill in establishing collaborative processes to address complex projects and needs
  • Provision of highly responsive support for clinic staff and trainees, and campus partners

In addition, preferred skills and experiences include:

  • Expertise in working with youth and emerging adults impacted by eating disorder concerns and other mental health needs.
  • Counseling experience with diverse populations including individuals identifying as minority gender, sexual orientation, race, and/or ethnicity. Work history and/or training with college students desirable
  • Bilingual or multilingual
  • Skilled in excel or with experience in data tracking and management

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently sit and perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a telephone, and write by hand.
  • Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, scrub/sweep/mop/chop/mix, operate foot and/or hand controls, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions:

  • Job will likely entail after-hours availability on evenings, nights, weekends, or holidays, in support of clinic and campus needs.
  • Job requires an onsite presence as essential personnel of at least 3 days/week; ratio of onsite/virtual work may be adjusted based on clinic needs and logistics.

The expected pay range for this position is $118,000 to $138,000 annually.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
