Residential Education Coordinator

Under the supervision of the Director of Residential Education, the Residential Education Coordinator (REC) assists in implementing the mission, vision, and values of the Residential Education, Housing, & Dining Program at CCA. The Residential Education Coordinator oversees the assigned Residential Hall (s), and supervises Residential Assistants in those communities. This position also assists in supporting Summer Programs housed in the residential communities and supervises summer resident assistants. In all aspects this position ensures that the residential students are provided with an atmosphere that promotes learning and enhances their academic and personal development.

To be successful in the position, the Residential Education Coordinator must be well organized and have excellent interpersonal communication, organization, administrative skills and demonstrated experience in understanding the needs of a global residential population.Through the intentional use of student development theory, cultural identity development theory, and leadership theory the Residential Education Coordinator will work to enhance a growing sense of community through the use of the Residential Curriculum and programs focused on personal growth. This position will ensure that the residential experience at the California College of the Arts is designed and nurtured through a lens of equity and inclusion attracting all CCA students' engagement in campus life.

NOTE: This position is a live-in position (based on San Francisco campus or .02 miles from main campus, depending on hall placement). It requires evening, weekend and holiday work responsibilities which includes on-call rotation during evening, weekend, holidays and campus closures.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Management and Administration -40%
  • Oversees the daily operations, management, and coordination of the services and facilities for the assigned residential community.
  • Responsible for upholding Residential Education, Housing & Dining and College policies and procedures including student conduct, staff hiring, training, and supervision.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key personnel in other departments, including Division of Student Affairs, Facilities Management Capstone Management, Housing/Dining, Enrollment Services, Summer Programs and Public Safety in support of the assigned residential student experience.
  • Acts as a liaison between assigned hall facilities management staff and Residential Education.
  • Supports the opening and closing of the residences in the assigned Residential Hall community.
  • Provides fiscal management of the program budget for the assigned Residential Hall community.
  • Participates in a on-call rotation and acts as a primary contact person for all residential student crises.
  • Supports the Residential Education & Housing teams in addressing student concerns and conflicts that arise in the residential halls.
  • Supports Auxiliary Services and Youth Programs during summer housing programs.
  • Oversees assigned summer residential programs and supervises summer support staff.
  • Participates in weekly Housing Operations cross departmental meetings.
  • Participates in weekly Residential Education team meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Program & Student Development -40%
  • Provides leadership in and is responsible for the creation and implementation of the continuing residential curriculum through integration of students' curricular and co-curricular experiences to enhance the missions of Residential Education, Student Affairs, and the College.
  • Supports a distinctive setting where student academic success is encouraged through residential experiences and outstanding customer service.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to develop programs and initiatives, which support the academic mission of the College.
  • Takes a leadership role in the development of an environment that supports and promotes opportunities for individual growth, respect for persons and property, and a sense of community living and shared responsibility.
  • Supports residential community standards violations and renders educational and corrective sanctions for violations of residential policies.
  • Serves as a Student Conduct Officer for the Office of the Dean of Students in addressing student concerns and grievances by providing advocacy, support, and mediation as necessary.
  • Addresses transition, adjustment and related issues which affect student life at the College and furnishes referrals to services on and off campus when needed.
  • Serves as an intake officer/investigator for the College regarding student complaints of unlawful harassment, discrimination, and sexual misconduct.
  • Represents Residential Education and the Division of Student Affairs in student life matters, campus committees, and professional organizations.

Student Supervision, Training and Selection -15%
  • Conducts the selection, training, supervision and evaluations of the Residential Assistants.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled individual and group meetings with Residential Assistants
  • Participates in the selection and training of student volunteers, professional staff and interns.


Other - 5%
  • Represents the Residential Education and the Division of Student Affairs in student life matters, campus committees, and professional organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree preferred in counseling, student personnel/higher education administration, adult education, social work, psychology, or other related field. Understanding of student development theory.
  • 2-4 years of professional or graduate experience in higher education is preferred.
  • Prior experience in Residential Education, Housing & Residential Life, or Student Affairs is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience or related skills.
  • Ability to balance collaborative and independent work.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs and issues of students in the arts/design/architecture fields, particularly students entering college for the first time.
  • Proficiency in using Google Apps for Education and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel and strong general computer skills.


Please note that in an effort to keep the CCA community safe, the College requires all staff, faculty, and students who are on campus to be fully vaccinated, including to have received a booster shot (if eligible). The job responsibilities of this position will require time regularly spent on campus, and therefore the incumbent will be asked to follow the CCA vaccination requirement, unless an exemption is approved. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • The compensation for this position is $64,480/annually
  • CCA offers a comprehensive benefits package, including the choice of five medical plans, generous holiday, sick & vacation time, a retirement match and tuition remission. CCA covers an average of 91% of the medical plan cost for the employee only and an average of 82% for employees with dependents.   • This is a live-in position with housing provided.


POSITION DETAILS:
  • CCA considers a full-time work week to be 37.5 hours per week.
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm, on-call rotation and night and weekend work including during holidays.
  • Work Mode: Campus Based
  • This position is covered under the staff union collective bargaining agreement and will be required to contribute to union dues/agency fees.
