Overview
POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Director guides and administers the TUC Graduate School of Education (GSOE) Program. The Director provides leadership to develop and implement the GSOE programs and University policies and procedures for the preparation of educational professionals; plans and implements instructional programs for professional education preparation; plans and administers the budgets of the GSOE; recommends appointment, retention, and promotion of GSOE faculty and staff, and represents GSOE in University councils, community professional organizations, and ceremonial functions. The Director also directs all accreditation activities for the Education programs which include Innovative Learning, Educational Leadership, Special Education, Applied Behavioral Analysis, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusive Education, in addition to the California Teacher Credential programs and evaluates areas for growth.



Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities that occur daily, weekly, and monthly:

Assumes primary responsibility for the GSOE Programs and serves on the leadership team for the College of Education and Health Sciences.

Has an inclusive leadership style valuing the input of GSOE students, faculty and staff in decision making, which is essential to build a collaborative team structure in the unit, academic college and at university level.

Upholds equity and justice as the highest standards in education.

Provides academic, curricular, policy, research, enrollment, strategic, and administrative leadership.

Participates and directs the processes of accreditation and approval, relative to the GSOE Program(s).

Spearheads, and when possible, secures, extramural funding to develop current GSOE Programs.

Creates new, innovative graduate programs or collaborations between existing graduate programs.

Engages in cultivating and securing funding for priority initiatives when possible.

Work collaboratively with, at a minimum, the College advancement officers and Alumni Association.

Leads implementation of the Graduate Education Strategic Plan.

Attends recruitment activities when being there adds stature and value to the recruitment effort and promotes visibility.

Collaborates with Advancement to develop marketing and advertising plans, educational and promotional activities, electronic and print marketing pieces that specifically promote graduate programs, generate interest, and build broad awareness for graduate studies.

Works with Student Affairs, and other units and groups to use and sustain best practices for student recruiting, advising, progression, and retention policies and practices.

Builds awareness for graduate education and enhance external relations throughout the region.

Be an ambassador and advocate for graduate studies.

Communicates the scholarship, leadership, and research expertise of our faculty.

Sustains an active research agenda as time permits and serves as a mentor for faculty research endeavors.

Able to fill in to teach courses as needed.

Fosters collaborative partnerships among campus units, with TUC Administration, Higher Education partners, educational entities, businesses, and other organizations that serve the best interest of graduate students, and faculty.

Serves as Ex-Officio member of the standing committees of the GSOE.

Creates an open line of communication with the Dean and CEHS Graduate Recruiter to collaborate in providing a recruiting and marketing plan for the GSOE credential and masters programs and services.

Works with the Dean of the College and with the staff of the GSOE to assure appropriate orientation of new faculty.

Establishes and implements a system of governance for the GSOE consistent with University policies, providing for appropriate consultation and evaluation coincident with policy formation and implementation.

Ensures that all necessary planning, accounting, and allocation of resources are accomplished and that the GSOE requests to the University administration for resources are made on a timely basis, utilizing appropriate faculty consultation.

Assumes responsibility for the curriculum and quality of instruction in the GSOE, including curriculum planning, academic standards, scheduling, teaching loads, course offerings, student advising, and assessment activities.

Encourages faculty in their roles as researchers, scholars, and members of both the professional community and the University.

Maintains an open chain of communication between the Dean of the College and the faculty of the GSOE.

Within the established system of governance, and in consultation with GSOE faculty, develops and approves policies and procedures for faculty recruitment; participates in evaluation of all School faculty and staff; counsels individual faculty when necessary; and assesses the feasibility and practicality of programmatic status quo and of potential changes.

Communicates, interprets, and administers University policy at the School level.

Represents the GSOE in its relations with other Colleges/Programs of the University.

Represents and promotes the Schools interest by membership in professional organizations, by maintaining relations with Directors of Education and other education administrators in the establishment of student learning experiences in off-campus school districts or other facilities, with leaders in education, industry, government, and foundations, and through liaison with other colleges and universities.

Promotes involvement with the community as appropriate to the nature of the School and the University.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (if applicable): should reflect who the employee is supervising and what the expectations are.

Qualifications

Earned doctorate in education or related area.

At least two years of experience in administration of a professional education program preferably in higher education and overseeing teaching credentialing programs (preferably in the State of California).

At least three years of experience in the education profession.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, faculty, and administration.

A professional philosophy that values social justice, equity, and diversity compatible with that of Touro University California and the evolving education program.

Utilize change theory to implement change and serve as a change leader.

Value diversity and inclusivity in creating a positive department culture.

Use data and other sources of evidence to inform decision making.

This position is eligible for rank and promotion assignment as outlined in University wide Rank and Promotion Guidelines.
