Position Summary
(Classified as: Student Services Professional IV)

Full-time position available on or after June 1, 2023 in the Warrior Cross Cultural Center.

Under the general supervision of the Director of the Warrior Cross Cultural Center, the incumbent is responsible for independently leading the male success initiative at Stanislaus State. Through intentional coordinated efforts, the program coordinator will promote student success initiatives that include developmental, academic, cultural, and social needs of students. The coordinator helps facilitate transition programs that promote a sense of belonging and build community amongst students who self-identify as men of color (e.g., peer project, mentoring, workshops) in support of student persistence and graduation.

Job Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Develop, coordinate and maintain all aspects of the male success initiative programming.
  • Work closely with the Warrior Cross Cultural Center Director to design the Male Success Initiative (MSI) mentorship programming in the areas of academics, leadership engagement, career planning, gender and masculinity enrichment. Coordinate programming that promotes a sense of belonging, a sense of brotherhood and bonding to those students who self-identify as men of color (i.e. peer project, mentoring, workshops) in support of GI 2025 and elimination of success gaps.
  • Advocate for undergraduate and graduate students who self-identify as men of color on campus to help with retention and graduation resources.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive processes and practices for MSI including the coordination efforts to identify, screen and select student participants in need of support in order to successfully pursue a post-secondary program.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement academic program activities and services to educationally disadvantaged first generation college bound students.
  • Work in coordination with Director to recommend a robust leadership program to evaluate and address the developmental, academic, cultural and social needs of secondary and post-secondary students.
  • Establish relationships with campus departments, faculty and students who support the work of MSI.
  • Assist director with hiring, training, and supervising graduate assistants, peer mentors and undergraduate students.
  • Assist in other programmatic functions as required, such as special events, to support the program.
  • Work with the Warrior Cross Cultural Center Director, President's Commission on Diversity and Inclusion, and student leaders to enhance the campus program. Document services and contacts and maintain accurate and complete records utilizing current technology.
  • Maintain a caseload of students and measure their academic success including the areas of academic support, retention, graduation rates, cultural & identity development, and professional development.
  • Assist with assessment/evaluation data collection and analysis. Compile monthly data into an operational summary.
  • Identify, evaluate and propose solutions to program areas that need special attention.
  • Provide reports as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and job related conflict resolutions.
    Experience: Equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems. (A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job-related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career or counseling.)

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in student affairs, education, guidance and counseling, administration, or equivalent in a related area.
  • Knowledge of academic, social, and emotional problems confronting students from diverse backgrounds, especially young men and broader issues of sex, gender, and sexuality.
  • Interpersonal communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of varying ages, genders, sexual orientations, and cultural backgrounds and effectively resolve disagreements and conflicts.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with a diverse population.
  • Ability to advocate the needs of individual students and groups of students to university administrators, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to demonstrate high-level analytical skills and high-level interpersonal skills in working on complex problems from the investigation and analysis stage through the solution and implementation stage.

  • Ability to interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations.
  • Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures, activities, and practices of the program area to which assigned, or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge.
  • General knowledge of the policies, practices and activities of Student Services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
  • General knowledge of the principles, problems and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel and fiscal management.
  • General knowledge of interview techniques and advanced statistical and research methods.
  • Ability to carry out very complex assignments without detailed instructions.
  • Ability to advise students individually or in groups on varied and complex matters.
  • Ability to determine the appropriate course of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals and groups in personal interactions of a sensitive nature.
  • Ability to reason logically and analyze and solve the organizational and operating problems of one or several program areas.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, initiate actions necessary to implement administrative or group decisions or recommendations and ability to evaluate programs, services, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze and define complex organizational, policy or procedural problems or situations accurately, collect and evaluate data, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.
  • Ability to understand the roles and responsibilities of others and to gauge relationships accordingly by taking into account the variety of the interrelationships, motivations and goals of the members of the organization served.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative and harmonious working relationships with a variety of individuals in circumstances which involve the denial of requests or the necessity to persuade others to accept a different point of view.

    Salary Range
    Anticipated salary will be $5,732 - $6,592 per month plus excellent paid benefits. Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist. (Full SSP IV range: $5,732 - $8,176 per month.)
