Duties:

The State University of New York at New Paltz seeks an effective, visionary leader to serve as Assistant Vice President for Student Wellbeing in the Division of Student Affairs. The Assistant Vice President for Student Wellbeing (AVP) plays an integral role in shaping the services and support that allow our students to thrive.

This key leadership position develops the overall vision and manages the continual improvement of holistic student wellbeing. The AVP works to promote a culture of care and wellness for students by partnering across the institution and by leading a cohesive team of dedicated professionals within:

  • The Disability Resource Center
  • Psychological Counseling Center
  • Student Health Services
  • Student Conduct and Community Standards
  • The Coordinator for Wellbeing Initiatives and Outreach.

The AVP also oversees Holistic Hawks, a group of faculty, staff and students whose mission to provide resources, programming, and modeling in order to empower campus community members to develop holistically. The AVP oversees the university-wide CARE (Consult, Assess, Respond, Educate) Team and collaborates with associate deans, faculty and student services for early intervention. The AVP serves as a liaison to students and their families to offer direct support in response to significant student issues. The AVP chairs the Student Crisis Fund allocation committee, providing resources to students who have experienced unpredictable financial challenges. The successful candidate must have working knowledge of compliance with federal and state laws and regulations related to functional and service areas within this portfolio and will be expected to consult with campus partners and SUNY Office of General Counsel to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the position.

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the AVP contributes to the leadership to the 130 member staff of the Division of Student Affairs. The AVP will uphold the mission and values of the Division to achieve our student learning objectives: https://www.newpaltz.edu/studentaffairs/. The AVP serves as a representative of student wellbeing needs at the university level.
