Coordinator for Student Engagement & Support
The Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion, or the Center as known on campus, represents the importance and influence of equity and inclusive excellence in every aspect of the Carnegie Mellon student experience. We are a team oriented unit, with dual reporting lines to the Division of Student Affairs and the Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Inaugural Chief Diversity Officer, and affect the student experience by cultivating cultural engagement, fostering a sense of belonging, and challenging systems of privilege and oppression. We work to continuously support the success of historically underrepresented student populations through developing community, active mentorship, and personal empowerment; all while collaborating with students, staff, faculty, and alumni to develop creative programs designed to increase and advance individual and collective intercultural competency development.

We are seeking a bold, creative and upbeat leader with a passion for this work and a student-centered focus to fill the role of Coordinator for Student Engagement & Support. This is an excellent opportunity if you thrive in an engaging work environment.
The Coordinator will be a creative and energetic team member with a passion for inclusion and equity broadly and experience supporting students at both the undergraduate or graduate level.
- Demonstrated work experience advising, supporting and developing strong interpersonal relationships with communities of students who come from historically and systemically marginalized communities such as women, LGBTQIA+ students, first generation students, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), etc.
- Strong and demonstrable ties supporting student communities with a focus on collective and intersectional identities within and across campus student groups whose experiences may be based on culture, color, gender, sex, ability and other identities which are marginalized and excluded.
- Ability to develop, coordinate, implement and assess Center hallmark experiences, workshops or cultural affinity programs. Examples include but not limited to: ORIGINS Pre-Orientation retreat, Mosaic Conference on Intersectionality, Tartans Allies, MLK campus celebration, etc.
- Demonstrated success related to facilitating culturally responsive student programming and engagement
- Advises and collaborates with appropriate on campus partners to support diversity-related programs and experiences across campus
- Advise student organizations directly and indirectly affiliated with the Center across diverse identities and groups
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering presentations or trainings in multiple formats (in-person, virtually, etc.)
- Develop with Center leadership new and targeted student-centered initiatives focused on enhancing self-advocacy, mentoring, belongingness and advancing student success.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate difficult conversations around sensitive situations with an understanding of community-building, team building and collaboration
- Serve on committees as needed and assist with office administration
- Occasional evening and/or weekend work is expected throughout the academic year
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree in related field
Experience: 1+ years of experience working in student affairs, leadership development or engagement relevant to programming for inclusive student success support
Preferred Requirements:
Education: Master's degree in related field
Experience: 1-3+ years of experience in field of higher education related to student affairs, programming or closely related field may substitute for the work experience. Any appropriate combination of relevant experience, education, and/or certifications may also be considered
30 % Program and event planning to support the overall campus wide student experience which will include cultural affinity-based programming and advancement initiatives that impact historically and systemically minoritized communities such as BIPOC (Black Indigenous People of Color); LGBTQIA+ students, first generation students, etc.
30 % Support efforts to create competency, leadership development and peer education and for equity and social justice through advising student organizations; facilitating relevant initiatives and 1-1 student mentoring and coaching
10 % Participate in planning, budget management, data collection, and reporting in support of overall mission of Center
25 % Support the general functions of the Center via routine staff meetings, participation in university wide campus events and signature Center programs, including efforts from Vice Provost for Diversity Equity & Inclusion and Division of Student Affairs:
- Assist with Center response and student support during critical incident moments on campus or in broader global community.
- May be asked to assist with business continuity planning and crisis management.
