The Institute on Inequalities in Global Health (IIGH) in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine is looking for a detail-oriented, experienced and organized Special Project Manager to join the team at the University of Southern California (USC). The Special Project Manager will support a new stream of work for the Institute, working with external partners, to address the structural and social barriers that impede understanding and expression of sexuality, and that seeks to promote physical, mental and social well-being for a more inclusive society. This program of work includes three pillars — policy, research and education — as well as an evaluation component.

At the USC Institute on Inequalities in Global Health, we tackle existing and emerging global health concerns bringing together the many academic disciplines needed to address them. We work with partners at USC and around the world to address health-related disparities and inequalities, taking a multidisciplinary approach to advance the evidence base about what works, train the next generation of leaders, and inform public policy.

Working closely with the IIGH Director and IIGH leadership as appropriate, this fixed-term position is responsible for driving the strategy and implementation of this new stream of work, including responsibility for ensuring all deliverables are met in a timely fashion, from planning through to implementation and evaluation, personnel administration, budget, events and marketing. The ideal candidate for this position will bring not only experience in project management, but also interest in addressing social impact, and supporting the links between corporate and university partners seeking to improve health and well-being. In addition, she/he/they should possess a high level of attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. Excellent written and oral communications skills are essential to the success of this role, as well as the ability to work with team members, faculty, students, university partners and corporate partners.

  • Researches, gathers, organizes and summarizes data for special projects. Develops, evaluates, recommends and implements procedures for data acquisition, management and quality control.
  • Monitors actionable goals for performance and growth helping to implement institute-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operational planning.
  • Interfaces with IIGH, university and corporate partners to exchange information regarding project status and build and maintain rapport.
  • Plans and staffs project operations based on proposed research, education, and policy/advocacy activities and timelines. Provides training and technical supervision to staff, as needed. Motivates and monitors the progress of work performed by project staff.
  • Prepares status reports and project plans, progress and results of activities. Develops, enhances and maintains information systems to support project operations.
  • Coordinates and participates in relevant meetings, events, conferences, etc.

  • Develops and manages project budgets. Provides financial status and projections reports as needed.
  • Coordinates and/or links project operations with other administrative functions on and off campus and/or within the school, department or division.
  • Participates in overall Institute coordination efforts, strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Represents University/IIGH as assigned or appropriate.
  • Stays current on university policies, procedures and agency regulations pertaining to research, education and student affairs.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred; combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
  • Minimum five (5) years of project management experience in an educational or nonprofit setting.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
