The Director of Revenue Cycle reports to the Assistant Dean of Business Operations and Financial Affairs to support key fiscal and operational components of the clinical practice and patient revenue cycle operations. These include direct management responsibility for staffing and operations in the Central Billing Office (CBO) and will work closely with Clinical Affairs for decentralized activities. Centralized functions include: Payor Contracting and Evaluation, Regulatory Compliance and Coding; Insurance and Patient Billing, Follow-up and Collections; Cash Management of Professional Fee Revenue; and Reporting and Analytics. Decentralized functions include: Pre-Service Financial Preparation; Service Identification and Reconciliation; Coordinated Patient Access Support; and Contact Center.
The Director of Revenue Cycle for the School of Dental Medicine (SoDM) oversees revenue cycle management, strategy, and business analytics for a practice that bills in excess of $16 million per year. The Director is responsible for the performance of the revenue cycle, including developing, implementing, managing and continuously improving operational performance.
The Director will be expected to implement workflows which optimize staff performance, standardize policies and procedures, and to leverage technology. The Director must apply strong communication skills to develop cohesive and high-functioning teams, establish positive relationships with providers, and partner with senior SoDM leaders. Components of this will require being a supportive mentor, catalyst and champion for change, project planner, and cross-functional collaborator with other areas.
This position must monitor and drive performance, assess opportunities to improve, report performance against key performance indicators to senior leaders in the SoDM, and demonstrate the school's patient revenue cycle operation is meeting or exceeding industry standards.

The Administrative units include the Offices of the Dean, Vice Dean, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Associate Dean for Extramural Clinical Practices, Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, Assistant Dean for Educational Support and Faculty Development, Assistant Dean for Academic Success and the Assistant Dean for Business Operations and Financial Affairs. The four academic departments are Surgical Sciences, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, General Dentistry and Foundational Sciences.
Included in the mission of the School of Dental Medicine is to educate dental care providers (both dental students and dental residents) and to address the oral health care needs of the underserved population of North Carolina. The School of Dental Medicine meets these missions by operating dental clinics that provide both educational experiences for the dental students and residents and provides dental care to the residents of North Carolina. These clinics occur in both Ross Hall in Greenville, North Carolina, as well as Community Service Learning Centers located throughout North Carolina. In order to operate these clinics, appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed.
