Overview

The Center for Career Development is seeking a career development professional to provide individual career advising for undergraduate students and to develop and facilitate group workshops for undergraduate students across a broad range of industry areas and career interests. The individual will advise undergraduates based on a career advising philosophy that aligns with and leverages the core tenets of a liberal arts education and our model focused on self-exploration and life-long career management. This holistic model involves both one-on-one advising and an educational/curricular framework that helps students to define a personally meaningful vision and connects them in multi-dimensional ways to the resources, people, organizations, and opportunities that will help make their unique visions a reality. This position provides the primary support for logistics and data collection for programs created by various teams across the Center for Career Development. Additionally, the assistant director will liaise with various colleagues across the university, with specific programmatic portfolios to evolve based on student needs. This position will report to the Director of Student Engagement.

Responsibilities

Undergraduate Student Career Advising (50%)

  • Provide career advising for undergraduate students on internships and jobs, experiential learning opportunities, internship and job applications, interviews, and other job search skills in both individual and group sessions.
  • Assist students with their personal reflection processes and the development of action plans and follow-up strategy based on a series of progressive meetings and evolving interests and goals.
  • Advise students on how to develop and maintain a professional online presence, including how to create online profiles (LinkedIn and others) and online portfolios.
  • Maintain and update appointment schedules, student records, and event management in the Handshake system.
  • Dedicate additional time to relevant appointment preparation and follow up as appropriate.

Undergraduate Student Career Programming (35%)

  • Coordinate the full cycle of program logistics for all career education programs initiated by the center and ensure all program information is accurately and promptly entered into Trello and Handshake. Work with program owners to ensure that appropriate reservations are made for spaces, food, equipment, etc.
  • Take charge of program related data collection and the program auditing process.
  • Support large-scale early engagement programs including FYRE and Sophomore Career Kickoff.
  • Assist the operation of the Peer Career Adviser Program.
  • Assist outreach and partnership activities for underrepresented groups of students. Develop and facilitate programs for them based on their needs.
  • Coordinate professional and social development activities for all student staff members in the Center.
  • Plan and facilitate a wide range of career programs and events for undergraduate students individually as well as with team members.
  • Serve as liaison to faculty, academic advisers, administrators, and student organizations, relevant to programmatic areas and communication.
  • Plan programs and liaise with graduate school partners to plan on-campus information sessions in programmatic areas of focus to be determined.
  • Develop and edit student career resources as new needs arise.

Additional Responsibilities (15%)

  • Contribute to broader team data collection efforts.
  • Support team wide events and initiatives including career fairs, departmental programs, facilitating large group career exploration workshops, and colleague supported workshops and events.
  • Attend and actively participate in relevant Career Advising and Center for Career Development team meetings and retreats.


Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Knowledge of best practices within career development and the ability to tailor, adapt and evolve such practices to a complex, fast-paced, and evolving organization
  • A passion for advising undergraduate students and working within a student-focused and student responsive environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion within the workplace and in all interactions with all constituents and stakeholders
  • Exceptional ability to attend to fine details and strong experience managing complex and nuanced programs as well as program logistics
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to deliver effective presentations to diverse audiences, and build internal and external relationships
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions in a timely and effective manner
  • Ability to manage changing technologies, social media, and communications
  • Comfort with change, ambiguity, and risk in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to gather, interpret and report data

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masterâ™s Degree in a related field
  • Experience in undergraduate advising, program development, and instruction/training
  • CliftonStrengths and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator experience
