Overview

The Center for Career Development is seeking an innovative career development professional to provide individual career advising for undergraduate students and deliver career-related programming.

The individual will advise undergraduates based on a career advising philosophy that aligns with and leverages the core tenets of a liberal arts education and our program model focused on self-exploration and life-long career management. This holistic model involves both one-on-one advising and an educational/curricular framework that helps students to define a personally meaningful vision and connects them in multi-dimensional ways to the resources, people, organizations, and opportunities that will help make their unique visions a reality. Additionally, the associate director will collaborate with colleagues in program development and implementation for various undergraduate students. This position requires a background and strong interest in helping students who are at the beginning of their career development trajectories, and the ability to guide students through a process of self-assessment, exploration, and reflection. This position reports to the Director of Student Engagement. To be fully considered, please submit your resume and cover letter.



Responsibilities

Undergraduate Student Career Advising - 60%

  • Provide career advising for undergraduate students on a wide range of career development topics including choice of concentration, skills assessment, internships, experiential learning opportunities, post-graduation employment and graduate/professional school planning in both individual and group sessions
  • Advise with a focus on active visioning and brainstorming exercises to help students who are exploring career possibilities clarify their values, interests, skills, and strengths as well as shed light on the career paths that best align with their vision
  • Assist students with their personal reflection processes and the development of action plans and follow-up strategy based on a series of progressive meetings and evolving interests and goals
  • Administer instruments and utilize a variety of assessment tools (e.g. CareerExplorer, CliftonStrengths, etc.) to support student development
  • Advise students on how to develop and maintain a professional online presence, including how to create online profiles (LinkedIn and others) and online portfolios
  • Maintain and update appointment schedules, student and employer records, and event management in the Handshake system
  • Dedicate additional time to relevant appointment preparation and follow up as appropriate

Undergraduate Student Career Programming - 30%

  • Develop and facilitate early engagement programs, events, and curriculum for first-years, sophomores, first-generation and/or low-income students, and other underrepresented groups of students in collaboration with the Director of Student Engagement
  • Partner with first-year and sophomore class governments as well as the Residential Colleges to increase early engagement
  • Manage the operation and supervision of the Peer Career Adviser Program
  • Increase the visibility of the Center for Career Development, including Peer Career Adviser Program to promote career development activities in various campus locations and with multiple campus partners
  • Collaborate with advising colleagues to plan and facilitate career panels and recruiting/networking events that highlight career exploration
  • Design and facilitate small group activities and exercises to promote the personal reflection process
  • Develop guides and resources to support career exploration and early career engagement
  • Plan programs and liaise with graduate school partners to plan on-campus information sessions in programmatic areas of focus to be determined

Additional Responsibilities â“ 10%

  • Contribute to program auditing process and team data collection efforts using Trello and Handshake
  • Use online office collaboration and communication tools (Slack, Google Drive, etc.)
  • Support team wide events including career fairs, departmental programs, facilitating large group career exploration workshops, and colleague supported workshops and events
  • Attend and actively participate in relevant Career Advising and Center for Career Development team meetings and retreats


Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Masterâ™s degree required
  • Three or more years of progressive experience in undergraduate career counseling/advising, program development, instruction or training and development
  • Knowledge of best practices within career development and the ability to tailor, adapt and evolve such practices to a complex, fast-paced, and evolving organization
  • A passion for and an expertise in advising undergraduate students and working within a student-focused and student responsive environment
  • Ability to skillfully navigate one-on-one and small group advising conversations with students who are exploring concentration and career options
  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion within the workplace and in all interactions with all constituents and stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to create and deliver effective resources and presentations, and build internal and external relationships
  • Strong time management and attention to detail
  • Self-directed resourceful problem-solver who is able to make decisions in a timely and effective manner
  • Ability to manage changing technologies and communications
  • Ability to gather, interpret and report data

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional training certifications and designations are desired
  • CliftonStrengths experience is desired

Princeton University is a residential college system where the large majority of undergraduate students live on campus. Occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary to facilitate programs and events.
