The Tickle College of Engineering (TCE) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, seeks a creative and dynamic professional to fill the position of Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs. The Associate Dean provides leadership and direction to the development of all curricular policies and programs of the college and reports directly to the Dean of Engineering as a member of the Dean's leadership team. The Associate Dean provides leadership and oversight for many of the student-facing college programs and initiatives including the Engage Engineering Fundamentals Program, the Cook Engineering Grand Challenge program, Student Success, and academic advising, recruitment, and retention for all undergraduate students.

The Associate Dean will coordinate with the newly formed College of Emerging and Collaborative Studies to develop and administer multi-disciplinary programs that intersect the TCE, such as the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program. The Associate Dean facilitates development of Study Abroad and International Global Initiative programs and coordinates with the UTK Center for Global Engagement in developing engineering program agreements with international academic institutions. The Associate Dean is responsible for undergraduate and graduate policies, issues, and curricula, provides leadership on scholarship policies, awards college-level student scholarships and fellowships, and represents the college in discussions with the campus-level Graduate School, Office of Academic Affairs, and Financial Aid.

The TCE has 185 T/TT and 67 NTT faculty in its eight academic departments and offers 11 undergraduate, 14 MS, and 12 PhD degrees. The college is home to seven research centers and three interdisciplinary institutes. Approximately 3,500 undergraduate, 350 MS, and 700 PhD enrolled students. The college sits 35th among public universities in the most recent U.S. News and World Report graduate rankings. Faculty in the college have won 21 early career awards (NSF, DoE, DARPA, and ARO) since 2016. In FY22, the college had research expenditures of $99.5 million.  The college is currently experiencing strong growth among the students and faculty and anticipates adding 29 new faculty over the next three years as part of ambitious campus and college cluster hiring campaigns lead by Chancellor Donde Plowman and Dean Matthew Mench.

The city of Knoxville is a hidden gem with a beautiful and walkable downtown, a diverse music scene including internationally recognized festivals, unique restaurants, and a robust offering of diverse cultural and outdoor activities.  UTK is located within easy driving distance to the Great Smoky Mountains, Asheville, Atlanta, and Nashville.  Knoxville and the surrounding counties have a population of more than 850,000 people.  Knoxville is also well connected nationally with an airport approximately 20 minutes from campus with direct flights to major cities across the country.

 Required Qualifications: 

• Doctorate degree in engineering or highly related area
• Knowledge of and strong commitment to engineering education in an inclusive and engaged environment.
• Qualifications appropriate to hold tenure in one of the College's academic departments.

 Desired qualifications: 

• Leadership experience at the department or college level.
