Associate Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Management

Position Summary
Full-time position under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) available on or after August 1, 2023 in the Division of Academic Affairs.

Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Associate Vice President of Strategic Enrollment Management (AVPSEM) serves as the senior enrollment management officer for the institution and is responsible for the operational, fiscal, and strategic oversight of Admissions and Outreach Services, Enrollment Services, and the Financial Aid and Scholarship Offices. The AVPSEM is responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures pertaining to University admissions and outreach efforts, financial aid awarding policies and procedures, and the matriculation of students through the registrar's office. The AVPSEM will facilitate the implementation of programs with feeder institutions.

The AVPSEM is a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team, serves as chair of the Strategic Enrollment Management Committee and leads an integrated recruitment/admissions effort in a public university. The AVPSEM provides critical leadership to enable the University to meet key enrollment management goals to: address issues of diversity, service, and quality by gathering and critically assessing effective student data; develop financial aid and scholarship strategies that attract and effectively support qualified students. The AVPSEM collaborates with departments from Student Affairs, and with Business and Finance as well as external constituents.

Job Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provides leadership and strategic vision for the Financial Aid, Enrollment Services, and Admissions Offices.
  • Serves as a member of the Provost's Advisory Council and is the primary representative of recruitment and enrollment initiatives and the chief advocate for the SEM units.
  • Works closely with college deans to understand capacity across specified undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Collaborates with other divisions on enrollment policy and practice, including retention.
  • Manages all personnel functions including recruitment, selection, training, performance evaluation, professional development, and supervision of direct reports.
  • Anticipates and apprises the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of concerns, recommends actions to address and/or remedy challenges and opportunities that arise.
  • Collaborates with unit directors to ensure efficient and coordinated services.
  • Serves as the chair of the Enrollment Management Committee.
  • Leads strategic planning activities within the enrollment management units working to develop and address SEM priorities that meet the ongoing recruitment and enrollment context.
  • Ensure the offices are responsive to new regulations, technological enhancements, and to continually strive for increases in process efficiency, and service to students.
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Partners with campus offices across other divisions to ensure timely and comprehensive project management for enrollment management areas.
  • Oversees the planning and processes for communications to prospective students, applicants, and newly admitted students.
  • Oversees the development of communication plans and marketing materials for prospective students.
  • Collaborates with IEA to collect, analyze, and use admissions and enrollment data to inform and develop immediate and long-range enrollment objectives
  • Collaborates with deans using assessment data to inform and improve admissions and enrollment processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education: Master's degree.
    Experience: Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in enrollment management or similar student success operations to include some leadership and/or supervisory responsibilities.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading processes of organizational change and demonstrated experience with advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice initiatives.
  • Involvement in professional associations and organizations related to strategic enrollment management and/or overall student success.
  • Demonstrated experience working in collaboration with Institutional Research and Analytics, Academic Programs, and college leaders.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing different types of budgets (departmental, financial aid, scholarship, etc).
  • Experience with administrative software systems (PeopleSoft preferred) and an understanding of the critical role technology plays in planning, maintaining, and assessing operations.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead through the lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice with people in a highly diverse environment.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program development, and resource allocation.
  • Ability to compile, prepare, write, and review reports.
  • Capacity to analyze, comprehend, and provide appropriate solutions to problems, as well as to strategize courses of action.
  • Strong data analysis and data management skills, including statistical analysis.

    Salary Range
    Anticipated salary will be $175,200 - $192,828 per year plus excellent paid benefits. Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist.

    Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
