Position Summary
The Communications Specialist develops, creates, and integrates all aspects of the Admissions communications function including print and digital communications, social media, marketing collateral, content strategy, internal messaging, and other creative efforts to engage diverse and highly qualified prospective students for the Brown Schoolâ™s graduate degree programs.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Communications Strategy and Content Management
Works collaboratively with the Brown School Communications department and Admissions team members to develop cohesive communications strategies and initiatives designed to enhance the recruitment and yield of prospective students and elevate the Brown School.
Maintains strong knowledge of the Brown Schoolâ™s admissions and enrollment processes, programmatic information and updates, and institutional policies and procedures.
Interfaces with internal and external stakeholders to advance the institutional mission and objectives of the Brown School.
Explores trends in enrollment marketing and student recruitment and works closely with team members to assess current organic communication campaigns and plan for future campaigns.
Project Management and Evaluation
Ensures development and timely execution of action-based and process-oriented communication plans.
Develops creative content, project timelines and production schedules.
Produces compelling, succinct copy to reach various target audiences/channels.
Creates materials and communication plans for campus tours, visits and recruitment events (virtual and in-person).
Creates key messaging/copy for print and electronic enrollment communications.
Maintains strong working knowledge of Slate, our enrollment Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database, specific to comm flows, audience segmentation, and analytics.
Coordinates social media and digital marketing strategies.
Develops new multimedia recruitment opportunities, including video, chat and text message outreach.
Organizes and facilitates focus groups, utilizes analytics to measure campaign performance, and implements measures to optimize future communications strategies.
Cultivates new opportunities to highlight the stories and competitive advantages of the Brown School.
Collaborates with School and campus partners as well as third-party contractors to support asset creation and facilitate consistent and seamless campaigns/projects.
Systems and Process Management
Develops policies and protocol to ensure effective resource management related to communications and marketing.
Provides leadership and training to team members for adherence to institutional style guide standards and consistent brand messaging.
Manages systems and software utilized in marketing and communications efforts.
Working Conditions
The Brown School is an in-person operation with hybrid flexibility.
Office located within the Brown School on the Danforth Campus.
Occasional travel and evening/weekend work may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic knowledge of core technologies, including HTML, CSS, and the principles of usable and responsive design.
Experience with email marketing products, content management systems (CMS), and customer/constituent relationship management (CRM) software.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and InDesign.
Degree in communications, marketing, business, social work or public health.
At least five years of recruitment, communications and/or marketing experience, with at least one year in a higher education setting.
Proficiency in Slate, the Brown Schoolâ™s application and CRM software.
Commitment to the values of social work and social justice, social policy, public health and health policy.Â
Current in industry and enrollment marketing trends; willingness to pursue ongoing professional development.
Demonstrated leadership and management skills and decision-making abilities.
Flexible and adaptable; able to shift tactics and strategies as needed to accommodate program and policy changes.
Creativity in outlook and approach to recruitment and marketing.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to foster productive working relationships with diverse constituencies.
Excellent writing and editing skills; experience with copywriting, digital and print promotion, and production of social media campaign content.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple project simultaneously.
Ability to work and thrive in a team environment, as well as independently. Ability to remain positive, professional and effective in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications
Bachelorâ™s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, business administration, English, or related field.
Three years of progressive responsibility in related area.

Salary Range
$50,500.00 - $86,200.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
