Description:

The Assistant Director of Student Activities and Advisor of the Joint Greek Council is an integral part of the daily operation of the Office of Student Activities & Campus Involvement (OSA), as well as the Division of Student Affairs. Fraternities and sororities are a major part of student involvement at North Carolina A&T State University, and the Assistant Director has a direct impact on the development, administration, and management of the members, leaders, and advisors.
Under the supervision of the Executive Director for Student Activities, the Assistant Director is responsible for leadership and policy development, organization management, recruitment and retention, advisor training, assessment, and fiscal oversight. This position serves a fraternity/sorority community consisting of more than 300 students and more than 12 chapters.

The Assistant Director provides guidance and leadership to the students, alumni, advisors and staff that make up the NCA&T Greek Community. This position assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of programs that promote student development, plans and executes one of the largest organized step shows on the east coast and provides day-to-day advisement and developmental resources to individual members, chapters, and advisors. The Assistant Director is responsible for providing direction and vision to the fraternity & sorority community and advancing the vision of becoming the premier fraternity and sorority experience in the country. General duties will include assisting with other functional areas to include: Student Organizations and Clubs, Student Programming, Student Government, large-scale programming, and leadership development. This position will also require evening and weekend work assignments.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
- Excellent communication, organization, planning, writing, and team-building skills – Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices related to Fraternity and Sorority Life. – Demonstrated knowledge of management and supervisory principles and practices. – Demonstrated knowledge of budget management methods and techniques. – Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning principles and practices. – Demonstrated knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices of organizational management. Experience in problem solving and decision-making. – Experience in planning, analyzing, and coordinating activities and establishing priorities. – Experience in investigations and hearings – Experience in developing exciting and relevant programs for students – Capability to remain calm and make decisions in emergencies.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Guide our fraternities and sororities particularly in the areas of risk management, membership recruitment/intake and education, problem resolution, and community planning. Establish, disseminate, and interpret University policies and procedures as they pertain to fraternity and sorority chapters. Work with the undergraduate members of fraternities and sororities, advisors, alumni, investigation and hearing panels, and various University offices to execute goals and vision for the department. – Develop programs and services that foster a sense of community among Greek organizations, including regular meetings of the Greek Life Council executive board, chapter presidents, full-body meetings, advisor meetings, and other initiatives. – Oversee and manage the Greek plots and their upkeep and maintenance. Supervise chapter and council extension and expansion, colonization or re-colonization process. – Oversee major programmatic efforts of the department (e.g. Homecoming Step show and Plots, Neophyte Week, Get the GIST, Stroll Competition, New Member Education, Greek Awards.) – Assist in the development of curriculum and training for the community related to leadership, risk management and harm reduction and hazing. – Develop working relationships with key stakeholders and departments on and off-campus. – Provide emergency support to the fraternity and sorority community. Lead on-going strategic planning process for Fraternity and Sorority Engagement/Life inclusive of the development of long-term goals and annual objectives for Fraternity and Sorority Engagement/Life. – Regularly assess needs, satisfaction, and learning outcomes of members of fraternities and sororities. – Regularly collect and report appropriate and meaningful metrics to measure outputs and outcomes of Fraternity and Sorority Engagement/Life. – Manage the budgets assigned to the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Engagement/Life. – Work collaboratively with the Council of Presidents, and Office of the Dean and Students, to assure consistency in standards within the Greek community. Oversee and work with the Greek Advisory Board including the adjudication of all chapter code of conduct violations associated with Fraternity & Sorority Engagement/Life. – Serve as a liaison to inter/national HQs and professional staff. – Plan and lead Chapter President's Meetings and Chapter Advisor Meetings. – Attend professional and regional student conferences as funding permits. – Serve on University committees as needed. – Other duties as assigned.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The Student Activities unit operates within the Division of Student Affairs and is a key component of the University's overall retention and graduation strategy. The Office of Student Activities manages the majority of all major student events each year, as well as areas of student leadership & governance and campus programs. These areas include Student Government, Campus Programs, Fraternity & Sorority Engagement Life and Clubs & Organizations, as well as university-wide events such as Homecoming & Aggie Fest.

Requirements:

Master's degree in Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or other student-related field. 2 years experience advising fraternities and/or sororities required. Must have excellent organizational skills, strong communication skills, and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. Must be customer service oriented and possess the ability to interact with a diverse population and maintain a positive attitude in times of crisis. Experience with student organization advising theory, student learning outcomes, and assessment is required. Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.

Preferred:

3 or more years of experience advising Greek letter organizations. Investigation and hearing experience.
