The Indiana Academy is accepting applications for Student Life Counselors. These counselors will be a positive role model and example to others, work with teachers and Academic Affairs in supporting students in academic endeavors; and help support other areas of the school like Student Health Care and Mental Health and Support services.
The Indiana Academy is a two-year residential school for academically gifted high school juniors and seniors located on the campus of Ball State University. Created by the Indiana Legislature, one of the Academy’s tasks is to support gifted education throughout Indiana.
The Indiana Academy’s 12 member residential life staff is responsible for 300 high school juniors and seniors from very diverse family backgrounds and Indiana locations. We have made a commitment to the parents and the State of Indiana to make every appropriate effort to maintain the health and safety of these children.
This is a 10-month, full-time, live-in position that is renewable annually upon good review.
We only house the employee and cannot house any spouse, significant others, children, dependents, and/or pets.
A valid driver’s license for at least three years is required and the successful candidate must be insurable under the Ball State Fleet insurance policy.
The starting salary is $27,360 for a 10-month contract.
$1000 stipend per semester for meals.
We provide a furnished apartment; there is no commute.
Housing costs (heating/cooling, internet, utilities, repairs, etc.) are covered.
Each apartment includes a private bathroom and bedroom space. Additionally, the apartment has a living room/office space that is shared when on duty but functions as a private living room when off duty.
Full university benefits including health insurance, retirement, and tuition remission are offered/included.
There is no meal plan included with this position, though meals are provided during the two weeks of initial training.
Because this position involves working with minors, the successful candidate must pass a background check and complete additional training

Position Function: Work with high school students to make significant contributions to their academic, personal, social, and physical development; encourage involvement in Indiana Academy programs and events; provide opportunities for problem solving and honest feedback; plan and support activities and be involved in student retention efforts; maintain a healthy relationship with the students while remaining professional at all times. (10-month contract)
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by date of first pay period.
Experience working with students or youth of any age; or experience as a volunteer, working with, or helping others in a school, in-home, or any other setting;
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy; must be 21 years of age.
Authorization to work in the US Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a resident assistant or summer residential camp counselor; experience with gifted high school students.
