Student Government Student Media (SGSM) serves over 28,000 undergraduates and 5,000 graduates on campus. SGSM is the umbrella department for several student-run organizations, which include the Associated Students, University of California, Irvine (ASUCI), Associated Graduate Students (AGS), Student Bar Association (SBA), Merage Student Association (MSA) and Associated Medical Student Government (AMSG), the New University, KUCI, Anthology, and Alternative Media. Under the supervision of the Senior Events & Creative Specialist of Student Government Student Media (SGSM), the Events Specialist will assist in the development, coordination, execution, and advising of various SGSM programs & events with the student leadership of the Associated Students of the University of California, Irvine (ASUCI) and the Associated Graduate Students (AGS). This position will ensure marketing, advertising, and any promotional items are planned, managed, and executed for the programs & events in coordination with the creative team. The incumbent will work with student leaders to assist in developing new and upholding legacy programs & events and services for students while upholding internal protocols and policies. The position will also assist the Senior Events & Creative Specialist with budget management specific to programs & events, ensuring events are within budget, negotiate pricing and assist in overseeing logistical matters with vendors, and ensure purchasing processes are within policy. The incumbent will be an on-site assistant and point for programs & events for SGSM as needed. This position will require a high degree of customer service to UCI faculty, staff, students, departments, and campus community.
Assists in planning, organizing, and implementing events and functions, which may include symposiums, conferences, program events, banquets, and VIP briefings. May independently manage small, non-complex events.

$25.57 - $45.02 (Hourly Rate)
Required:
Two or more years of directly related professional experience; or equivalent combina-tion of education and experience.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Working knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of event planning and production and public relations. Working knowledge of the campus, its programs, policies, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure. Working organizational skills, including skill in effectively coordinating and organizing multiple details. Excellent organizational abilities appropriate to effective calendar management and student and / or volunteer scheduling. Good interpersonal communication skills and political acumen, including skill in effectively representing the campus, medical center or other university organization to its publics. Good judgment and effective decision-making and problem resolution skills, including skill to recognize and deal effectively and appropriately with real and potential problem areas, including skill to determine the issues / problems that need to be brought to the attention of higher level staff and / or management. Ability to work in diverse groups, including but not limited to students, staff, faculty, general public, production personnel, technical operators and performing artists. Ability to work professionally under pressure and under tight deadlines ensuring excellent customer service support. Ability to work on several tasks simultaneously. Skill at responding effectively to priorities and setting deadlines. Ability to effectively work with invited guests, donors, government officials and university VIPs. Ability to give clear directives and use independent, rational judgment to make optimal decisions. Skill to interpret and apply guidelines and policies and communicate them to users. Knowledge and skill to set and monitor work standards and protocols.
Preferred:
Knowledge of assisting in planning, coordinating, and executing events with budgets of well over $100,000 and up to 8,500 attendees Knowledge of crowd management, crowd safety protocols, security and emergency procedures related to small, medium and large-scale gatherings. Knowledge of risk management protocol and generally accepted safety standards for events. Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and experience in creation and maintenance of large event budgets. Knowledge of general UCI policy and procedures. Technical and operational knowledge of all facets of stage production, including lighting, rigging, sound, stage, backline, etc. Experience in student advisement
