East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Director of Health and Wellness! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. As the Director of Health and Wellness, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable working with a diverse student population. You will be an active member of the Campus Life and Inclusive Excellence team and will work closely with the VP to develop and execute a strategic plan in support of divisional and institutional goals and priorities. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your health and wellness education and prevention experience and strong management skills while providing vision and leadership in the creation and implementation of evidence-based programming created to support comprehensive student well-being and holistic student success. To be successful in this role, you must lead with a foundation of role modeling, effectively manage resources, and create environments in which students can thrive through a socio-ecological approach for health-promotion and harm-reduction strategies.
Your normal schedule will be Monday through Friday 8 am – 4:30 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Director. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.
Provide leadership, vision, and direction for the daily operations of the Health & Wellness Education and Prevention office, including developing and evaluating educational and preventative initiatives and programs.
Provide leadership on risk management efforts as they relate to student health and wellness.
Participate in developing, implementing, and assessing the effectiveness of the campus crisis management plan.
Serve as the University Public Health Surveillance Officer, and cultivate and maintain relationships with federal, state, and community health agencies, as well as the Environmental Health and Safety Manager and the Campus Safety Officer.
Assist with coordinating emergency collaboration and campus responses to communicable disease outbreaks and other health-related emergencies with public health service providers and on-campus partners.
Oversee the development and implementation of educational and preventative programs and initiatives to reduce substance use, sexual assault, and relationship violence.
Coordinate annual workshops and trainings such as First Aid & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training, Mental Health First Aid training, Stop the Bleed training, NARCAN (suspected opioid overdose) training, and others.
Provide support to faculty, staff, students, and contractors to produce educational materials, websites, and innovative and inclusive programming for ESU's diverse student body.
Develop and coordinate a robust Peer Education Program that provides educational and preventative programs with a focus on responsible student decision-making.
Provide oversight of contracted and grant-related service providers including, but not limited to Lehigh Valley Health Network - Pocono (LVHN-P), Maternal Family Health Services (MFHS), American Lung Association (ALA), It's On Us - PA, Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB), PA State System of Higher Education Alcohol and Other Drugs Prevention Coalition, and Women's Resources of Monroe County (WRMC) by meeting with them regularly, addressing any discrepancies and complaints, and ensuring delivery of quality services and care.
Collect and maintain data to track programs and collaborate with stakeholders on health and wellness initiatives for the purpose of reporting and pursuing external awards.
Provide leadership, vision, and direction for student compliance training every academic year (e.g., Get Inclusive) including holistic wellness, DEI, alcohol and substance use, substance use recovery, safer sex health practices, sexual assault prevention, and various other health and wellness related issues.
Perform related duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
A Master's Degree in Public Health, Health Services Administration, or a related field. Doctorate in Public Health, Health Services Administration, or a related field or doctorate in progress preferred.
Minimum of five years of health and wellness education and prevention experience and four years supervisory and/or administrative experience; preferably in a college or university setting.
Strong management, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to respond to the needs of a diverse student population preferred.
Proven success in securing and managing grants preferred.
Experience in developing educational and preventative programs preferred.
