Location: Newton, Massachusetts

Full-time

Organization Type:

Higher Education Institution

Summary

The Program Director of Young Adult and College Behavioral Health Initiatives (“Program Director”) at BHELS of William James College (“WJC”) will be responsible for a series of initiatives specifically targeting college age youth and the educators and staff who support this population. Reporting to the Executive Director of BHELS, the Program Director will manage a comprehensive portfolio, including behavioral health training programs for college professors and administrators, which will leverage current expertise found within BHELS and WJC more broadly. The Program Director will also serve as a standard bearer of the philosophies, policies, and practices central to the mission of BHELS–namely that social and emotional learning; diversity, equity, and inclusion; sustainability; behavioral health and well-being, and leadership capacity are interconnected.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Seek out and secure relationships with private and public institutions of higher education interested in collaborating with WJC to implement behavioral health programs.
  • Develop and implement programming–including syllabi, resources, and frameworks–for faculty and administrators working in secondary/post-secondary education to improve the behavioral health of young adults based on latest research and best practices, specifically related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (“DEIB”), social emotional learning (“SEL”), anti-racism, and leadership.
  • Act as an entrepreneur and innovator while exploring unique or new avenues for young adult behavioral health program development, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant trends–across psychology and particularly DEIB, SEL, as well as secondary/post-secondary education–and apply this insight to identify and cultivate new opportunities for program development or the creation of academic programming.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, BHELS and other WJC colleagues to ensure alignment of vision and philosophy in young adult or college behavioral health programming.
  • Liaise with other WJC centers, administrators, and departments as necessary to, e.g., assist with the identification of major donors who may be interested in supporting college behavioral health initiatives.
  • Collaborate with WJC researchers to monitor outcomes and progress of new initiatives related to young adult or college behavioral health.
  • Partner with the Director of Institutional Grants and Foundation Relations to prepare materials in support of grant applications, reports and the pursuit of other funding opportunities.

Required Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • A master's degree in social work, counseling, or related field from an accredited program or doctoral level degree (e.g., Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D.) in clinical or counseling psychology.
  • 10 years of related experience in higher education student affairs with an emphasis on wellness, counseling, student and leadership development, or experiential learning or comparable disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • Previous experience working in a college/university behavioral health counseling center, or similar clinical or counseling experience with a young adult or college population.
  • Knowledge of program development, management, and leadership education, learning outcomes assessment, staff training/development, and student advisement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including oral, written, listening, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership related to strategy development and implementation designed to support equity-deserving groups/student population.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives, programs, and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work successfully and collaboratively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Knowledge of barriers to student success (systemic, historic, issues of access) for equity-deserving groups. Experience of using this knowledge to inform decision-making and direction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (which may require some evening and weekend hours).

Work Environment

  • Driving is required to attend trainings, meetings and sessions or to fulfill other responsibilities.
  • Ability to effectively perform job responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Ability to assume employment in the United States without College Sponsorship.

Benefits

  • Our benefits package includes generous health, vision and dental insurance, eligibility for both College funded 401(a) retirement plan and Employer sponsored 403(b) plan, company-paid life and long-term disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, generous PTO, and professional development opportunities.

  • William James College is not-for-profit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Employment at William James College may qualify for The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service#qualifying-employer
