Within the Division of Student Affairs, the area of Residence Education oversees residential spaces that house approximately 626 residential college and 200+ high school students. The Department of Residence Life cooperates with the campus at large to create a community environment conducive to personal and professional growth unique to high school students in a residential arts conservatory educational setting.
Residential Education staff working with UNCSA’s residential high school population serve as “live-in” peer educators, administrators, resource persons, and advisors. These staff advocate for the enrichment of high school student artists’ experiences by promoting self-awareness, providing healthy social opportunities, identifying resources for success, and presenting educational programs focused on developing lifelong skills.
These staff strive to foster an environment that gives commuter and residential high school students an opportunity to be innovative, creative, and reach their fullest potential and are committed to proactively and efficiently addressing students’ residential and social needs by creating a safe and healthy living and learning environment.

The position of Community Coordinator for Residential Education (High School) is a full-time, 12 month live-in position reporting to the Assistant Director of High School Life and assists area leadership in pursuit of the mission of the department, division, and institution.
This position’s primary responsibilities include: building/maintaining the residential community, supervising student staff, adjudicating students in violation of the Student Code of Conduct, maintaining consistency with policies and procedures, overseeing the general residence hall operations, implementing social/educational programs for residents, serving in the on-call/on-duty rotation, supporting policy development, attending meetings, organizing and implementing professional staff fall training and on-going staff development.
This role assists with summer residential programs i.e. Summer Intensives during the summer months.
The Community Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the leadership of the high school life component of a comprehensive high school housing and residential education operation. This operation includes two high school residence halls: Moore Hall & Sanford Hall and serving high school commuter students.
While this position works primarily in the high school area of Residential Life, it also works collaboratively across campus and within the Division of Student Affairs to support high school students’ success.
Secondary responsibilities include providing general support for the Residence Life area for college students. This includes merging on-call structure with Residential Education team in college for summer and break duty.

Graduation from a four-year college or university plus 1-2 years’ experience in educational administration, teaching, residence life, counseling, social work or psychology area, or in working with young people in some other capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) is a top-ranked creative and performing arts conservatory in Winston-Salem, NC. Founded in 1963 as America’s first public arts conservatory, UNCSA celebrates more than 50 years of training wildly creative, gifted and hardworking young artists to do what they love and do it brilliantly!

UNCSA has been recognized by leading industry publications and organizations for the exceptional training it provides artists across disciplines — demonstrating the hard work of our faculty, staff and students and their commitment to excellence in the arts.

Rankings: https://www.uncsa.edu/about/rankings/index.aspx

With a primary focus on performance, the UNC School of the Arts provides a conservatory environment where students are encouraged to grow, to experiment, and to develop their abilities to the fullest. Students study with resident master teachers who have had successful careers in the arts — from American Ballet Theatre to the Metropolitan Opera — and who remain active in their professions. Noted guest artists frequently bring lessons directly from the contemporary arts world.

Approximately 1,250 students are enrolled in the five conservatories that make up the School of the Arts: Dance, Design and Production, Drama, Filmmaking and Music. Ranging from high school to undergraduate, graduate and post-master’s, the students are selected by audition or portfolio review and interview. Students can live residentially as a high school student on a college campus with professional staff who serve as in loco parentis.

About University of North Carolina School of The Arts
The UNCSA Academic Program provides unparalleled liberal arts training commensurate with the intensive conservatory training of our young artists. Our 17 full-time faculty teach approximately 250 young artists in grades 9-12 across the core disciplines of English, Mathematics, Modern Language, Science, and Social Studies. As such, we have a student-teacher classroom ratio of 14:1. Student-artists earn their diploma from the Academic Program, while also earning a certificate in one of four artistic disciplines: Dance, Drama, Music, or Visual Arts. We are the only public, residential arts conservatory in the country in which many high school students attend arts classes alongside their college counterparts, taught by the same internationally-renowned faculty. Our students then enter their respective arts profession or matriculate to the finest conservatories and universities or in the world. And most importantly, they are really good people.
