Job Summary:

Director of Education Abroad provides overall institutional leadership for the administration and management of study abroad, study away, and related travel programs. The Director collaborates to coordinate critical support and direction related to study abroad and study away programs, across all institutional and academic divisions. The Director serves in the role of health and safety risk manager for all institutional travel programs, credit and non-credit, and coordinates crisis response for all programs. Miami University recognizes that technology enables us to find new ways of providing first class service and workplace flexibility. This position is approved for remote work on a hybrid basis following a successful period of on boarding. Remote work is a working arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason. Incumbent may work up to 40% remotely (1-2 days per week) based on a set departmental schedule.

Duties/Physical Demands:

The Director’s duties include and is not limited to:
•Coordinates to assess and manage risk associated with travel programs, coordinate crisis response, communicate and implement policies and guidelines, streamline program development processes, develop and monitor performance indicators for programmatic success, and liaise with current and prospective study abroad partners.
•Oversee a large volume of short-term faculty led study abroad/away and co-sponsored programs.
•Coordinate risk management and crisis response protocols, policies, training, and contracts with approved providers for study abroad. Act as case manager and coordinate response for study abroad/away crises.
•Oversight of robust and effective advising toward meeting enrollment goals in education abroad.
•Compliance coordination and implementation (includes, but not limited to Clery Act, FERPA, procurement, insurance, travel guidelines, and communication protocol)
•Develop and recommend strategy and policy.
•Supervise staff including coordinators and advisors. Coordinate logistics of travel programs between and among the academic divisions.
•Collaborate with divisional administrative personnel and faculty on planning and expansion of quality academic programs designed to increase global competence, including assessment of learning outcomes and goals.
•Supervisory Responsibility
The Director of Education Abroad supervises the Assistant/Associate Director, advisors, and coordinators, as well as student study abroad Ambassadors and graduate student interns.
•Working Conditions
This position will require 24/7 crisis response coordination coverage for periods of time totaling approximately 8 months each year. International travel required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Master’s degree and seven years of work experience in international education/study abroad administration.

Desired Qualifications:

Consideration may be given to candidates with a doctorate in a relevant discipline and ten years of experience working in international education, demonstrated experience collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders, International program development and management experience, evidence of success in leadership for building strong study abroad enrollments and programs, experience in a leadership position and as an effective supervisor, excellent planning, budget, data development, and organizational skills, evidence of strong communication skills and attention to following through to resolution, ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision, proficiency in a second language and Forum on Education Abroad Professional Certification in Education Abroad.
