The Associate Vice Chancellor for Business, Arts, and Education (BAE) will effectively draw upon knowledge, expertise, experience, and demonstrated cultural competence to strategically advance regional impact with an inclusive and equitable lens as well as with a keen understanding of the evolving context of Minnesota and its surrounding states and provinces. The Associate Vice Chancellor is responsible for the overall operations of the Business Department and the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education (HSSE) Department and will concurrently hold faculty standing. The Associate Vice Chancellor also oversees the campus’s Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC). Across these areas, the Associate Vice Chancellor manages the professional, instructional, and scholarly activities of the faculty and staff and provides academic leadership. The Associate Vice Chancellor will support and enhance the success of all students. The Associate Vice Chancellor will report to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Primary Responsibilities
Function as a contributing thought leader for Academic Affairs, devising new and creative ways of fostering a sense of belonging, holistic talent development, and success for all students, faculty, and professional staff within the Division and UMN Crookston;
Lead the Division in a manner consistent with the principles of shared governance and the negotiated collective bargaining agreements;
Facilitate the development of a culture that recognizes, affirms, and helps faculty, staff, and students draw upon cultural, communal, and identity-based assets to achieve educational outcomes;
Promote and maintain a high-quality learning environment for diverse on-campus and online students;
Provide instructional leadership in curriculum development, review, and improvement that emphasizes student learning and responsiveness to regional and national workforce needs;
Support faculty in pursuit and maintenance of required regional and license-based accreditations as well as voluntary program accreditations;
Recruit, hire, and mentor new faculty who reflect the projected representational diversity of the UMN Crookston student body;
Provide general oversight of tenure, promotion, and advancement in rank processes for faculty;
Oversee annual performance evaluation and merit increase processes for faculty and staff;
Generate a unit culture that supports and promotes active scholarly and creative work including pursuit of grants and external funding;
Work with department chairs to establish, enact, and evaluate annual department goals, objectives, and plans;
Prepare, prioritize, authorize, and monitor budget requests and expenditures;
Collaborate with colleagues in University and Alumni Relations on philanthropic efforts including assisting in the identification and development of relationships with potential significant donors;
Participate in weekly meetings of the Vice Chancellor’s Strategic Administrative Leadership Team (SALT) consisting of Associate Vice Chancellors, the Director of Institutional Effectiveness, and leaders for athletics, enrollment management, student engagement and wellness, and student success.
Represent the Division on administrative groups;
Provide supervisory leadership for and oversight of the Early Childhood Development Center;
Communicate and implement university and system policy;
Support enrollment management efforts to recruit, retain, and graduate students;
Espouse and practice principles of affirmative action and equal opportunity;
Keep current with new developments in their field;
Maintain an agenda for scholarly research and creative activity related to one’s academic discipline as well as involvement with professional organizations relevant to the Associate Vice Chancellor role; and
Help advance the outreach mission of the University in additional ways as mutually agreed upon with the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Required:
Doctoral degree or terminal degree in one’s academic discipline.
Professional achievement in teaching and scholarship commensurate with the rank of tenured associate professor within either the Business or the HSSE Department.
Experience in college-level administration, new program development, and/or institutional and program accreditation processes.
Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competence, and achievement in working with diverse student populations.
Demonstrated commitment to the land-grant mission of the University of Minnesota Crookston, especially as related to access and student success.
Evidence of leadership abilities, exceptional communication skills, and excellent interpersonal and team- building skills.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty, student affairs educators, staff, and students.
Preferred:
Professional achievement in teaching and scholarship commensurate with the rank of tenured full professor.
A record of achievement in diversifying faculty, advancing culturally responsive teaching practice, and narrowing opportunity and achievement gaps among students served.
