JOB SUMMARYReporting to the Director of Athletics and Recreation, this position is responsible for the coordination of the athletic training facilities and all aspects of coordinating the prevention, evaluation, treatment, referral and rehabilitation of injuries/illnesses to student-athletes of 9 varsity sports.The head athletic trainer must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate coverage schedules, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. This position requires a strong ability to communicate frequently and accurately with team physicians, campus health services, coaches and student athletes.The athletic trainer will be expected to provide excellent care to student athletes while adhering to all rules and regulations as set forth by Simmons University, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and the NCAA.Serve as an active member of Student Affairs engaging in partnerships with all units across the division. Demonstrate exemplary personal conduct, serve as a role model for student athletes, maintain a commitment to excellent customer and/or student service and possess ethical and responsible decision-making.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.Manage Athletic Training staff to fulfill all needs of 9 varsity sports. Needs including, but not limited to, practice and game day coverage at the Holmes Sports Center and Daly Field, maintenance of medical record, insurance claims, and injury management.Day-to-day operations of the athletic training room include but are not limited to prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic related injuries.Professional communication with head coaches and coaching staff, as well as Athletic Director and support staff. Including, but not limited to, student-athlete emergency information, emergency action plans, scheduling, and day to day coverage. Develop and maintain communication with the University Health Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and other external healthcare resources.Coordination of game day needs for both home and away contests with opposing team?s athletic trainers. Home contests require set-up, preparation and appropriate student-athlete care staffing. Oversee the design and implementation of sport specific strength and conditioning programs.Manage department staff safety education (coordinating CPR-AED training and certification with Simmons Public Safety; concussion education; environmental injuries and illnesses)Organize and manage daily needs of the Athletic Training room. Responsible for all emergency protocols for all University athletic facilitiesSubmit annual City of Boston public health requirementsResponsible for reporting to the Equal Opportunity Officer or Title IX Coordinator knowledge or receipt of reports of discrimination, discriminatory harassment, and retaliation from students or other members of the university community.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESOther duties as assignedREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSBachelors in Athletic Training from a certified accredited athletic training education program (CAATE) requiredBOC certification as an Athletic Trainer requiredEligibility for MA licensure in Athletic Training requiredKnowledge of NCAA regulationsStrong organizational, interpersonal, communication and computer skillsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS2-5 years of athletic training experience at the college level preferredCSCS Certification by the NSCA is preferredMaster?s degree preferredCOMPETENCIESHigh attention to detailAbility to organize workflowDemonstrated ability to balance simultaneous projects with efficiency and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlinesStrong ability to communicate frequently and accurately with team physicians, campus health services coaches and student athletesWORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDSRequires afternoon, evening, & weekend hours and 10-25% travelA valid driver?s license is requiredDISCLAIMERSSimmons University is committed to inclusive excellence in all aspects of an individual?s community experience.
